------题目------
The following appeared in a memorandum from the new president of the Patriot car manufacturing company.
'In the past, the body styles of Patriot cars have been old-fashioned, and our cars have not sold as well as have our competitors' cars. But now, since many regions in this country report rapid increases in the numbers of newly licensed drivers, we should be able to increase our share of the market by selling cars to this growing population. Thus, we should discontinue our oldest models and concentrate instead on manufacturing sporty cars. We can also improve the success of our marketing campaigns by switching our advertising to the Youth Advertising agency, which has successfully promoted the country's leading soft drink.'
------正文------
In this argument, the memorandum from the new president of the Patriot car manufacturing company cited that there would be an increase their share of the market by selling cars to the growing newly licensed drivers if only they discontinue the oldest models and instead manufacturing sporty cars. Then the author also mentioned that they should consult the Youth Advertising agency which had a successful promotion. Nonetheless, this argument defies simple logic and suffers from several critical fallacies.引文很长,自己的观点很短,且过于抽象,小心被判定为没有主题句~
First of all, this argument is based on a gratuitous assumption that it is the old-fashioned styles that render the sale of Patriot cars suffers in the automobile market. Yet, this may probably not the case. It is highly possible that Patriot car manufacturing company offers a worse after-sale service than its competitors, after all, this feature has played a more vital role in people's evaluation about which brand they choose.这句话感觉说得有点啰嗦,且和前半句结合得不太好 Also perhaps the price of Patriot cars is so high that go beyond masses' expectation, or perhaps the fuel consume of this type of car is unaffordable. Any of these or alternative scenarios, if true, may undermine the foundation of his edifice that whether the styles of the car is the main reason of declining sales.
Moreover, the arguer assumes that the increase in the numbers of newly licensed drivers should be able to increasing their share of the market. However, he or she may ignores the fact that newly licensed drivers may probably be teenagers, whichwho may be not able to afford such new style sporty cars. In addition, we are not informed that whether that company is competence in the manufacturing of sporty cars, {and furthermore, whether that style}直接说or even就好吧? can competent with other branches of its own. Common sense tells that it is not easy to switch to another new style especially in automobile manufacturing industry. Lacking these consideration, the new policy may suffer a sorely fail.
Thirdly, another fallacy made in this argument is a false analogy. To put it precisely, the dissimilarities between the realm of soft drink and automobile manufacturing industry can eclipse the assuming existing common things they share. Perhaps, the Youth Advertising agency is good at making promotions on soft drink, but whether it is helpful with automobile advertising is open to doubt. Without ruling out these possibilities只讲了一个可能性,应该用单数吧。, one can not claim that that advertising agency is conductive to the sales of sporty cars.
In sum, this argument is not well reasoned and lacks credibility. To bolster the conclusion, the arguer should offer further investigation and survey on the possible share of their sporty car and whether Youth Advertising agency would competence in the automobile promotion.
