"The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries."


Retrospect to history, we could easily to get the point that lots of greatness of individuals are discovered not by their contemporaries but by those who live after them. Through the following substances we could agree with the point better.

Firstly, in the field of ideology, through deeply analysis, we could draw the point that great individuals always more progressive and more foresee to the coming times than general contemporaries. They could find the deep reactions of the society that others who have no idea about or even have not  focused on the view can not  totally understand that what the great people do would do how benefited to their lives. It is all for the reason that the great people's works are intending for the society's future. Unless for the general people in the future when they could accumulate their long-term experiences and they will realize what the great people do today are more useful to the future. Moreover, only at the time people occur corresponding problems in the middle process of developing society and only when they need the theories made by great people which were ignored for a long time before to as the conditions for solving advanced problems could they at first time realize the importance of the works which already had done by great individuals. After that time, the greatness of these individuals finally turns out from the history.

Unlike the point that in the mental field, the great people always stand out of the normal situations and find something more deeply than others, their advanced works are more easily to be ignored since it is more invisible and abstracted to hold for others. Take Von Gogh for example, his painting-- "sunflower" which is consider as a famous and attractive work today originally has no votarists and valueless. The same situation also happened on Copernicus who developed heliocentric theory and did not admit to publish until his last year before his death. There are lots of examples having an equal situation as Copernicus and Von Gogh occurred. Through them we could get that it is so difficult for contemporaries decide the greatness of these individuals.

On the other hand, there still have some great individuals that loved by contemporaries like some musicians, architects, and designers and so forth. Their works are showed obviously and vividly for general people to accept. What's more, after explanation of these material works contemporaries may easily to catch the main thought to these great individuals. In addition, the works done by these people are easily to be accepted as one of the fashions meets others view. What contemporaries could do is only to taste it and think about the suitabilities to our lives.


In summary, the discussions above may let us clearly know that the masterpieces which once ignored could be witnessed in later times. Through this point we could find that it is those live after them decided the greatness of individuals.

多谢多谢，个人认为只要把道理说清楚也是很有说服力的，例证和说理一样都是辅助工具，不过我本来就不是很善于举例子。
