Can we success only for our unique individuality? I agree with the author that in some professions, anyone, who is lack of conformity, could not get success. However, the author overrate the significance of conformity, since in modern era, individuality is our benefactor.
Admittedly, in contemporary life, creativity and originality are mostly emphasized. People are encouraged to take a breakthrough in ordinary rules. More and more reports about persons’ economic success for their individuality are presented in the covers of magazines. Take Bill gates, the board chairman of Microsoft and the chief magnate all over the world. He was once a sophomoric student in Harvard University. In case of a conformist, he would prefer going on the learning of Computer Science to discontinuing his study, and maybe would become an expert in the field. However, he would lose the best opportunity to set up Microsoft, to catch up with the trend about the spread of personal computers’ operational system and to get his first million dollar. Moreover, if we scrutinize people who succeed in his work, clearly, none of them doesn’t depend on his individuality.
Furthermore, it is well known that success of personal economy can be attained for the excellent investment. Is this field a paradise for conformists. Empirical sense indicates that the winners in it are always riskers. Riskers dare to invest in areas ,though which are replete with ventures, their reward is enormous. While conformists usually follow the popular tide: laying out in some safe but low-profit projects. As a result, riskers who means boasting individuality would obtain much more money. Considering Walon Buffet, the greatest investor in the history, respected as “ God of Stock”, whilom purchased a lot of stocks of Coca Cola at the time of the recesses of Americans stock market, once considered as a crazy action by the public. However, he earned millions of dollars for the wise comportment.
In some fields, people who want attain personal success may rely on conformity. In some traditional vocation, including attorneys, accounting, finance, insurance, people seems conformist who can work effectively in constrains which have been built for hundreds of years. They must observe these rules, otherwise they would be kicked out. However, even though in these vocations, people who acquire success, also benefit much from their personalities, since they often try to discover new methods to serve better within the restrictions.
In sum, I concede that people in some vocations indeed need conformity, however, in most circumstances, the real one we benefit from is individuality.
