185 Scandals-whether in politics, academic, or other areas-can be useful.They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could.

Scandals, in my opinion, do have itheir positive side which can be useful while in some cases they show their negative effect to our society.

During our daily lives, scandals are able to focus our attention on certain problems and then make these problems solved under the supervision of publics. In some cases, it is quite difficult for some administrations to punish those people who do something wrong but the situation is quite different if we can expose these people to publics through scandals. Common sense tells us that people are usually intended to be attracted those something sensational. Once the whole society is concentrated on these people and what they have did, the power of public voices is quite useful to supervise and urge the relevant people to solve the problem correctly and timely. For example, a well-known scientist in Bell Lab was reported to modify his results of many relative experiments, write a lot of so-called great papers according to those artificial data and won quite a few awards. After this news was reported, the whole public society as well as scientist society were focused on the progress of this event, so Bell Lab started to investigate immediately and announced the result and the punishment steps to public as quick as thought. It was quite possible that some unknown dealings kept from publics would undergo if the news was not reported to publics.

Besides the supervise function, the scandal also can help us to find the bug of our current system. There does exist some scandals which are not caused by certain person but our system. In world-shaking "Enron Event", we have realize that the deficiency in USA auditing system which is quite critical to our well-balanced economy. It was because of this 'famous' event that government began to think about the cause and why the government was not aware of this problem before. By thinking, we can then figure out some measure to make system perfect.

Although scandal helps our society a lot in many aspects, we shouldn't ignore their negative side. Around the world, there are all kinds of stars in different fields such as pop music, movie, sports and etc. Because they are always be focused by thousands of people, they can earn much more than our ordinary people. It can be said that the more people concern about the star, the more he or she will earn. So some people make up some scandals especially sexual scandals with some already famous people to make themselves well-known soon. These immoral scandals make publics feel sick and even affect the ordinary order of our society.

When some people are making up scandals, some journalists are also try their best to find the privacies of famous people to increase their newspapers or magazines sales. Those journalists are take advantage of public's interests on the famous people's lives which ordinary people cannot have. In Hongkong, there are countless magazines and newspapers that only report the privacies of famous people especially those pop music and movie stars. As we all know, it is impossible that there are so many news about stars. The journalists have to intervene stars private lives in pursuit of them and sometimes their actions are illegal. Almost every star including Jackie Chan, Stephen Chou and etc. are involved in scandals and bothered by them for a long period of time.

As most things in this world, scandal is also two-edged blade. It is useful to our society in solving problems when it is brought out to attract public attention on some true problems. But sometimes other kinds of scandal can only make us feel sick and even destroy some excellent people's reputation and life at all. We should remember in our mind that which kind of scandal is welcome while others are unacceptable.
