In order for any work of art—whether film, literature, sculpture, or a song—to have merit, it must be understandable to most people.
------正文------
Although I concede that in order for some works of art to have merit, the majority of their audience should understand them, this understanding is not always necessary when judging an art work as the speaker says.
For an art work to achieve its social value, it should be understandable to most audiences which(it) is pointed to , since understanding ,which further leads to appreciation, is the first step to arouse their emotions. Calligraphy, for a fitting example, is a unique art form only found in China. While a particular artistic work successfully promotes the feeling of membership of Chinese culture, calligraphers should make certain that their audiences have understood how these handwritings differ from ordinary handwritings. Then the meanings of the art work will be accessible to the people, and unite the society through their common feelings of being part of it. On a large level, understanding from the majority of art audience plays an essential role for an art work to function socially, achieving its goal through people's shared aesthetical principals.
In other circumstances, however, the understanding of the general public is not an indispensable factor when evaluating an artistic work. Take the classical modernist paintings for instance. Abstract paintings created by Picasso, Monet, and Van Gogh all require highly developed skills of looking and familiarity of paintings that belong to other painters, or other times. Without special training on how to appreciate these paintings, and absent of comments form critics, will they still be understandable to the most people? Probably not. Yet the merit inherent in the same masterpieces is undeniable. Hence, for some highly developed art works, their inborn values are independent of the understanding of people in general.超越时代或“前卫”艺术品,大多数人难以理解。
Similarly, people from time to time are obsessed with the artistic works they do not understand. The reason might have been the curiosity deeply rooted in our being humans 怎么打字的,呵呵 ;) . The enigmatic expression of Mona Lisa has attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors to Musee du Lonuvor every year, all in desperate cravings of a personal encounter with her fascinating smile, yet no one knows the meaning of it. It is the mysterious nature of the very art work that people love. While they show extraordinary interest and favor to such art works as Mona Lisa, they label it as high art.
In conclusion, for the social value of an art work to occur, understanding from most people is prerequisite. But therein exists high-in-level art work whose meaning denies an common understanding. Finally, people sometimes show particular love to the art work they do not understand.
不知道是现在拍砖没有感觉了,还是JJ写的越来越好了。看不出有什么大的问题,除了超时外 ;) 。也快了,加油呀! |
