备战状态中~~~
argument 162 A recent study shows that people living on the continent of North America suffer 9 more chronic fatigue and 31 times more chronic depression than do people living on the continent of Asia. Interestingly, Asians, on average, eat 20 grams of soy per day, whereas North Americans eat virtually none. It turns out that soy contains phytochemicals called isoflavones, which have been found to possess disease-preventing properties. Thus, North Americans should consider eating soy on a regular basis as a way of preventing fatigue and depression.
------正文------
The arguer recommends that North Americans should eat soy on a regular basis to prevent fatigue and depression. To support this recommendation the arguer cites a study showing that Asians , who suffer less fatigue and depression problems, eat more soy everyday as compared with North Americans. And the soy contains a kind of disease-preventing phytochemicals. However, close scrutiny of this evidence reveals that it lends little support for the recommendation.

To begin with, the arguer’s recommendation relies on the assumption that Asians experience milder problems on fatigue and depression. Yet the argument fails to substantiate this assumption.
If the standards against which to define fatigue and depression vary considerably in two continents, or the Asians suffer from fatigue and depression to a severer extent, then the arguer’s assumption based on the cited statistics is unconvincing.

Additionally, the arguer assumes that the amount of soy consuming makes all the difference between Asians and North Americans on depression and fatigue problems. However, it is entirely possible that North Americans' suffering on these problems is attributable to their climatic conditions , or being stressed by high pressure from the rapid pace of life. Since the arguer fails to consider and rule out these possibilities, his/her conclusion that little soy contained in North Americans' diet accounts for their fatigue and depression cannot be taken seriously.

Another element to consider is the medical attribute of soy. As the arguer says, isoflavones in soy have been found to possess disease-preventing properties. Yet no specific information is provided about whether the disease-preventing properties include fatigue and depression preventing abilities. It is quite possible that isoflavones can prevent rashes, high blood pressure, or whatsoever other than fatigue and depression. If this is the case, the arguer’s recommendation of soy-containing diet to North Americans will do little help to their problems.

In sum, this argument is weak in several grounds. To strengthen it the arguer must provide clear evidence that Asians are in fact suffer less than North Americans, both on frequency and the extent of fatigue and depression. To better evaluate the argument I need to know that whether the absence of soy, rather than other factors, is responsible for these health problems of North Americans.    Finally, I would need to know that what are the disease-preventing properties of isoflavones in soy, especially its effect on fatigue and depression.

大致看了一下, 很8错的说! 第一篇能写成这样, 已经非常棒了! 驳斥得比较全面, 语言也很正规! 是限时的吗? 如果限时能写成这样考试应该没问题了!
继续努力! 加油!  :D

If the standards against which to define fatigue and depression vary considerably in two continents, or the Asians suffer from fatigue and depression to a severer extent感觉这句应该是前一个if假设下可能的情况,所以这里用or并列似乎不合适, then the arguer’s assumption based on the cited statistics is unconvincing.

Additionally, the arguer falselyassumes that the amount of soy consuming makes all the difference between Asians and North Americans on preventingdepression and fatigue problems.
