ISSUE104. "It is primarily through formal education that a culture tries to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears."
如果一个文化想要它认为好的理念永世长存而摈弃它厌恶的理念，主要是通过正规的教育。                                                教育问题

1.        教育是社会文化的基础。教育对人的影响是巨大的而且潜移默化的。人们的观念在教育过程中不知不觉地改变. 因此想要让人们舍弃不想要的理念最好的方法就是通过教育，
2.        正规的教育的内容是可控的。课本是国家规定老师统一挑选。所以当一个国家入侵另一国时往往逼迫被入侵国学习他们的语言与文化。
3.        Concession. Informal education, the mass media也起着重要作用。Family education, ethos of the society.

Is formal education the most propitious way for a culture to preserve its preferable ideas and dishonor ideas? The speaker claims so, and in general, I agree with the speaker’s statement. Formal education, a major method to make the masses informed, is the most crucial tool that government could use to control the direction where the culture would go. Nevertheless, there are also some other ways that could not be neglected such as informal education or the mass media and so on.

Firstly, education is the foundation of social culture and it insinuates people into their minds without compulsion. From childhood to adolescence, everyone needs education to ensure that they have the living skills to survive the drastic competence and adverse circumstance. From this facet, education, unlike the media or other ways, is indeed compulsory. Hence, when you are educated to an idea from when you are a child to when you are a senior student, you can hardly say “no”. For example, unlike the eastern education which focus on the cooperation among people, the western education places emphasis on individualism, thus the ethos in the western society is always attach more significance to individual than the eastern society. In one world, a man may choose what TV program he prefer to watch, but he could not choose education if he want to acquire respect and position in the modern society, thus education is the most useful tool to use for a culture to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears.

Secondly, unlike other methods which could be used, the content of formal education is controllable. The textbook is compiled, edited and published by the country, and the standards of teachers’ choosing are established by the country, too. Thus in a majority of the situations, what their people could know and what should be ignored could always be set by the government, so that it can achieve the purpose that only preserve the parts of culture which they want to. That may be the reason why after invasion, the invaders always force the victims of aggression to learn their language and culture.


I concede that except for formal education, the other methods such as informal education (like family education and community education) and the mass media also play an indispensable role. The family education exerts an crucial effect on people especially when they are young, and they were not so sophisticated that they could accept the ideas given by the adults easily and these ideas are always hard to forget. The community education is also important to people as well as family education. Although the mass media is always optional the people, they appear in your vision so frequently that it also can change your mind without awareness. In short, despite the formal education, the other methods are also the essential tools for a culture to use when it tries to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears.

In conclusion, I fundamentally agree with the speaker’s assertion because the education, which has the intense power to change people’s mind, is the basis of the society and is a more controllable tool for a culture to use. On the other hand, the other methods such as the informal education and the mass media are also effective tools that could not be ignored.

其实我还是感觉concession放到后面给人的感觉是在用障眼法来掩盖逻辑论证的脆弱，力度不够，立意不鲜明。建议看看北美范文书上的第一篇精讲范文。
