History teaches us only one thing: knowing about the past cannot help people to make important decisions today.

What is the role of history? Is history helpful for us? The author asserts that the past could not help us to make important decisions. However, I do not agree with this statement. History could no only help us to become sagacious but also help us to avoid detours.

In the first place, history could inspire us by giving us spirit food. By studying the history we can learn many miraculous things that our forefathers create in the past, which can give us the inspiration. History about the ancient civilization like Rome and Greek can echo people's reminiscence about the past civilization that are the origin of democratic. Rome and Greek left us a great deal of valuable legacy which inspire a lot of people to fulfill the unfinished dream. The principle of American's constitute--liberty, equality, fraternity, are spawn from the ancient philosophers like Socrates and Plato who come from the Greek civilization. The histories about Gandhi who fight for the independence of India inspire us to respect other's right and to inherit the spirit of liberty. The histories of Martin Luther King who led the black to pursue equality inspire us to fulfill the dream of equality and fraternity.

In the second place, histories can sometimes repeat almost in the same way. There are many examples that show us the repetitive character of history. In the thousand years of human's history man repeat several fallacies. The war is a good example, millions of war happened in the past and it still continue in every corner of the world today. People attack other neighbors to expand territories; slaughters and plunders were common events in the past. Nowadays, we can see the same things which show in different forms but share the same essence, one of the obvious expamle is terrorism. Modern terrorism may be not as mass as the ancient war which often need thousand people, but modern terrorism are more destructive since the modern technologies are employed by the terrorists. The 911 event killed thousands of people and made many people lose their home. The terrorism is a similar form of the war, it happened because terrorist want to pursue their certain interests. And such things are immoral just like the two world wars in last century. Such behaviors need nations' cooperation to eliminate it, and this need the coordinated effort which we took to fight against Fascist. By studying history we can avoid the repetition of evil things

Furthermore, history could give us direction. History is a good mentor who could help us to predict the future because it can nurture us with a lot of experiences. History about the dinosaurs in Gobi Mongolia could help us to know the reason that this mysterious ruler who once ruled the globe extinct. By studying it, we can forecast that we may face the same destiny, and thus need us to find the direction that can forge the Noah’s Ark for the future. Histories about the ice age tell us that we need to prepare for another ice age. And the study about the origin of the solar system is a study of history too, for it is about the solar system's past. The program of Depth Hit of NASA recently success in getting the first hand information by hitting the comet This study could help us to understand the mystery of cosmos and help us better prepare for our Noah’s Ark.

In sum, history could help us to make important decisions, the decision about our future and the decisions of preventing fallacies.  And by studying history we gain the energy to proceed since the spirits of our ancestors inspire us.
