Education encourages students to question and criticize, and therefore does little to promote social harmony.

1、        教师应该鼓励学生进行质疑和批判,例如,在科学领域中,科学事实总是不断被否定
2、        但太多的skepticism会导致大家对法律,政府的不信任,以致产生混乱
3、        教育还鼓励其他的一些virtues,例如合作和容让, 这些都可以促进社会和谐

Does education really little to promote social harmony, as it encourage students to question and criticize? As far as I am concerned, it may be true to some extent that education has encouraged students to question and it undermines the social harmony. Nevertheless, other merits, such as cooperation and duration, that education advocates, surely contribute to the social harmony.

On the one hand, the reason why teachers tends to encourage students to question and criticize is that it is one of main characteristics that a academician should has which has been proved by numberless empirical experience. In the academic realm, nearly all theories are thought to be right for contemporary people, but soon will be proved to be wrong by their descendants. A good case in point is in astronomy. In middle ages, it is believed that the earth is the centre of the universe and all other planets turns around it. Then Copernicus stood up and claimed that the sun is the centre of the universe and the earth turns around it. But now we find that even the sun is not the centre of the universe ant all. Hence it is necessary to keep students, the future of the society, ready to question and criticize, which helps to accelerate development of science and technology.

Furthermore, as encouraging students to question and criticize may result in too much emphasize on skepticism, to this extent, it will do harm to the social harmony. Let's take legislation for example, as we all know that if a bill want to be approved by the congress, a lot of debate is need and necessary. But if we still tend to question and criticize the bill when it has passed, it may cause objectionable conflicts. What’s more, when it comes to the national policies, if we put too much doubts on them and do not like to obey them, it will definitely lead to chaos in society. Consequently, too much question and criticism to the authority and government will do little to promote social harmony.

On the other hand, the education also advocates other virtues, such as cooperation and toleration, which can improve the social harmony. In this sense, the education is good to the social harmony. The main purpose of education is not only to pass down the knowledge and skills to students, but also to help students to establish a value system, to teach them how to cooperate and communicate with others. As it is well acknowledged that all people are born diversely, with the merit of cooperation and duration, we will come to learn that it make little sense merely to question and criticize others demerits, but to tolerate, even appreciate diversities, and to learn others merits can greatly improve our relationships with others and elevate the productivity. To this extent, the education can promote the social harmony.
  
To sum up, though the fact that education encourage students to question and criticize may do harm to social harmony, education also advocates some values that do good to social harmony. As a result, if we can look into this question in a larger scope, we can easily get the conclusion that the education contributes more to the education than it undermines.
