52"Education encourages students to question and criticize, and therefore does little to promote social harmony."
提纲:
I totally agree with the author that, education, as a means by which we prepare people for society, not only teaches students to learn, but also encourages students to question and criticize. But I'm afraid I don't agree with the author that encouraging students to question and criticize makes education do little to promote social harmony. In fact, I think, only when people of a society are well educated, can harmony of that society be promoted.
First of all, the author points out education does little to promote social harmony because it encourage students to quetion snd criticize, but what education does is more than that. It teaches students lots of knowledge which helps them get along with nature and fulfill their jobs effective in the future. What's more important, it also shapes the students character. People well educated are kind, friendly, polite, and easy-going in most cases, and they often have willpower to conquer difficulties and accomplish goals. These characters are helpful to promote social harmony. For example, students from West Point, who recieve the best education, most become one important part of the supports of the United States and do ceaseless effort to the social harmony. Also, students graduate from MIT, UCLA, those top universities, make so much contribution to sociaty that also promote harmony.
What's more, I think questioning and criticizing which education encourages students to do much to promote social harmony. Firstly, we have to admit that there are problems with our sociaty. Those problems won't disappear by our ignoring. To solve them, what we need to do and the only thing we can do is pointing them out and facing them. Without Lincon's questioning, criticizing and fighting against slavery, we might still live that way. Is that a sociaty more harmonious? Absolutely no. Sociaty needs to step forward. It needs somebody to notice the disfigurements of it. It needs somebody to stand out to question it. It needs somebody to criticize it. That's the way in which it can move on.
However, as a coin has two sides, too much critique without sense does do little to promote social harmony. What we want is to solve social problems and make our lives better, so questioning and criticizing should be well-grounded, and should go with workable solutions. If people question and criticize reasonlessly all the time, it only amplifies problems, and this may even do harm to social harmony.
To sum up, education does much to promote social harmony. It prepares people with ability to make contribution to the sociaty. It shapes people's characters, which makes people get along easier. It also encourages students to point out the disfigurements of the sociaty and improve them. Education's status in promoting social harmony so important that it can be never replaced.
