“A recent study of Dura-Sock wearers suggests that our company is wasting the money it spends on its patented ‘Endure’ manufacturing process, which ensures that our socks are strong enough to last for two years. Dura-Sock has always advertised its use of the ‘ Endure’ process, but the study shows that the average Dura-Sock customer actually purchases new Dura-Socks every three months Furthermore, Dura-Sock customers surveyed in our largest market, northeastern United States cities, say that they most value Dura-Sock’s stylish appearance and availability in many colors . these findings suggest that Dura-Sock can increase its profits by discontinuing its use of the ‘Endure ‘ manufacturing process."

In this argument, the arguer claims that the company is wasting the money it spends on its patented 'Endure' manufacturing process. Based on it, the arguer further concludes that Dura-sock can increase its profits by discontinuing its use of the 'Endure' manufacturing process. To support it, the arguer points out two studies , one of which shows the average Dura-Sock customer purchases new Dura-Socks every three months while the other study's respondents say that they most value Dura-Sock's stylish appearance and availability in many  colors. However, close scrutiny of the two study lend little support to the conclusion.

first of all, in the first study, the arguer assumes that the Dura-Sock customers purchase stocks only when they have no stock left well to wear. But, in our experience, we sometimes buy stock only because they are so cute , charming to look. This is the case especially when the customs are young women who care much about their appearance. To the contrary, the high rate of purchase just indicate that the customer of Dura-Sock are satisfied with the quality of the stocks, which is due to the manufacturing process. Since the assumption of arguer lacks evidence and other explain can lead to the contrary conclusion, the conclusion of arguer is dubious.

secondly, we don not know the process of the study and how many subjects there are in the first study.  narrower the scope of study is, the worse it can hold. Probably, only a small parts of the Dura-Sock customer take part in the study, and they are all young women who like shopping and buying clothes. This scenario, if true, would cast doubts on the study , let alone the conclusion based on the study.

what should be considered too is the reliability of the second study. First, the study is taken in northeastern United States cities instead of the whole nation. In common sense, the  part can not representative the whole. Probably, these cites are modern cities and the people there pay more attention to the appearance of socks. But we know that in other cities , the people  are probably emphasize the quantity of the socks. secondly, the arguer assume that the customer who value sock's appearance  don not care the quantity of the stock. But he  fails to give us evidence of that ,because there is no such questions in the study and we don not know the facts. Lacking convincing evidence to explain the second study as the arguer  does, the conclusion based on the study is defendable.

Last but not least, given all the arguer's foregoing assumptions are reliable, it is too hash to conclude that stopping use of 'Endure' manufacturing process can increase the company's profits. Anyways, we don't the cost of alternative manufacturing process and the cost of the transaction between two process. Maybe the cost is higher than maintaining use of 'Endure' manufacturing process. Without ruling out these cases, the conclusion is unreliable.

To sum up, the argument is not as persuasive as it stands. To better support the conclusion, the arguer should do national study and provides evidence to rule out other explain. To better access the argument, we should know more about the subjects and process of the two study.
