The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.
The merits and misdeeds of some influential individuals are reviewed constantly in different times due to the fact that what they have done has exerted impact on the progress of human civilization. People living in the contemporary times with those individuals can give fair evaluation on those individuals, however, it is always those who live after them who can truly decide their greatness.

The greatness of individuals sometimes needs a long period of time to fully demonstrate itself, and thus, compared with the contemporaries, those in the later generation could offer more genuine and comprehensive judgments. The personal achievements do not always prove useful to social advance immediately after they are made, and chances exist that they may play a minor role or are totally neglected in the contemporary times. Countless examples in the long river of history demonstrate this. For instance, in China, Ma Yinchu, the famous economist and the principal of Peking University was the first to state in public that if no measures were taken, the overpopulation would become serious in China and this would pose threats to its overall development. However, his ideas were totally ignored by not only decision-makers in the government but the general public as well, because they simply believed that greater population had a direct positive bearing on the productivity of the society. Ma’s beliefs and advocation are recognized to be of great value only years after when overpopulation had begun to pose threats to us. His contemporaries, either too much influenced by the dominant governmental policies, or due to their own short-sightedness, failed to see how great he is. Only the later generation, who are suffering from the overpopulation, realize how important his ideas have been and cherish his works and suggestions.

Moreover, even granted the individuals' accomplishments are valued by the society, with the advance of science and technology, their findings may prove far more significant than before. When some scientists yield some important inventions or researches, like the finding of some chemical elements, people know those researches are important and valuable, and may have great significance, however, their understanding is still confined to the abstract research statistics or experiments. As time goes by, people may find some practical use of those researches and when they see the benefits of those researches bring to people with their own eyes, they learn to appreciate the greatness of the researches far better than those who live in the same period with the researchers.

There are also occasions when talented people' greatness could not be understood and even wronged by the contemporaries and it would be impossible for them to give fair comments. The human race does produce genius at times. Out of naturally-born talent, strong interests and hard work, those geniuses may have ways of thinking far ahead of the time. Their thinking may violate the contemporary dominant ideology and pose a threat to the present social balance. Therefore, those geniuses would suffer from the deviation from the majority of the society and sometimes it is the sacrifice of life. When Copernicus first announced the sun was the centre of universe instead of the earth, the authority was scared because this would shake their long-standing religion that God created earth to be centre and violate the divinity of God. They believed him to be wrong and tried all means to prevent him from continuing his career.  His follower, Bruno, ended up in an even more miserably: he was burned to death. Neither Copernicus nor Bruno’s contribution to the progress of astronomy is recognized. Only centuries later when science has rooted in human’s life and astronomy is more developed, their greatness is accepted.

Due to the limit of knowledge, the greatness of certain individuals would receive righteous evaluation. However, since human beings never cease to strive to quench their thirst for knowledge, along the road of discovering truth and perfecting our understanding of the world, the greatness of the individuals, so long as they deserve attention, would be justified some day by the following generations.

The merits and misdeeds of some influential individuals are reviewed constantly in different times due to the fact that what改为for  due to the fact that what they have done has exerted +adj。impact on the progress of human civilization. People living in the contemporary times with those individuals can give fair evaluation on those individuals, however, it is always those who live after them who can truly decide their greatness.

The greatness of individuals sometimes needs a long period of time to fully demonstrate itself, and thus, compared with the contemporaries, those in the later generation直接later generations could offer more genuine and comprehensive judgments.

Moreover, even granted the individuals' accomplishments are immediately recognizedvalued by the society, with the advance of science and technology, their findings may prove far more significant than before. When some scientists yield some important inventions or researches, like the finding of some chemical elements, people know those researches are important and valuable, and may have great significance, however, their understanding is still confined to the abstract research statistics or experiments. As time goes by, people may find some practical use of those researches and when they see the benefits of those researches bring to people with their own eyes,这句是不是有点语法问题啊 they learn to appreciate the greatness of the researches far better than those who live in the same period with the researchers.

There are also occasions when talented people' greatness could not be understood and even wronged by the contemporaries and it would be impossible for them to give fair comments. The human race does produce genius at times. Out of naturally-born没见过这个:( 是不是和INBORN一样用啊)talent, strong interests and hard work, those geniuses may have ways of thinking far ahead of the time. Their thinking may violate the contemporary dominant ideology and pose a threat呵呵,这个出现了好多次的说 to the present social balancebalance?. Therefore, those geniuses would suffer from the deviation应该换个类似于压迫的词比较好 from the majority of the society and sometimes it is the sacrifice of life. When Copernicus first announced the sun was the centre of universe instead of the earth, the authority was scared because this would shake their long-standing religion that God created earth to be centre and violate the divinity of God. They believed him to be wrong and tried all means to prevent him from continuing his career. His follower, Bruno, ended up in andelete in an even more miserably: he was burned to death. Neither Copernicus nor Bruno’s contribution to the progress of astronomy is recognized. Only centuries later when science has rooted in human’s life and astronomy is more developed, their greatness is accepted.

Due to the limit of knowledge, the greatness of certain individuals would receive righteouswhy righteous? evaluation. However, since human beings never cease to strive to quench their thirst for knowledge, along the road of discoveringpursue truth and perfecting our understanding of the world, the greatness of the individuals, so long as they deserve attention, would be justified some day by the following generations.
