Dear colleague,
We would like  to inform you of the Erasmus Mundus Programme, named ALGANT, and
which has started Fall 2004.

This is part of a European program aimed at encouraging and enabling highly
qualified students from all over the world to obtain credentials and/or
experience at the master's level in the European Union. Only
57 such programmes exist so far and ours is the only Mundus course in pure
mathematics.

We wish to encourage qualified non-European students to submit an application
for a two-year scholarship within this program.  The stipend will be in the
amount of 21000 euros per year (about 27000 USD). This amount will enable
students to cover all their expenses, tuition and travel included.

We are in a position to offer up to 27 such scholarships, of which at least 6
for students from India, 2 for students from China and 5 for students from
other Asian countries (Thailand, Malaysia, ...).

The ideal candidate should be about 25 years old and must possess an academic
degree from a programme lasting a minimum of three years (bachelor). A thorough
proficiency in written and spoken English is required.

Note that other mobility scholarships are also available for European students.

The master course is organized by  a consortium which  involves the
universities
of Bordeaux (France), Leiden (The Netherlands), Padova (Italy) and--starting
2006--Paris (France).

We offer a joint two-year curriculum in Algebra, Geometry and Number Theory
whose double object is on the one hand to prepare students for PhD programmes
and on the other hand to introduce them to current applications in such related
fields as cryptography and coding theory.

30 students from 16 different countries have started our course in 2005.

We would be grateful if you could forward this call for applications as widely
as possible. Applicants for the academic year 2006-2007 should write as soon as
possible and before January 31st, 2006
