TOPIC: ISSUE 207 - "Rituals and ceremonies help define a culture. Without them, societies or groups of people have a diminished sense of who they are."
WORDS: 470          TIME: 上午 12:45:00          DATE: 2006-2-7

Do rituals and ceremonies help define a culture? From my point of view, I strongly agree with the speaker insofar as rituals and ceremonies play an important role in defining a culture. However culture refers to a myriad of facets, nor are rituals and ceremonies the only means to preserve cultural distinctness.

Admittedly, rituals and ceremonies do help define a culture. Since rituals and ceremonies are handed down from one generation to another, the meaning of rituals and ceremonies contain the historical backgrounds of a culture and the origin of a culture. There is persuasive example to illustrate this view. As we all know, Thanksgiving Day is a legal holiday annually in the United States and some other North America areas. It is a custom to express gratitude for God's blessings and celebrating a plentiful harvest. In keeping with such ideas, preparing and eating a large meal is a central part of most Thanksgiving celebration, including turkey, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie and so on. These simple foods represent the religious belief of god to some extent. Festival is one of the forms of rituals and ceremonies, which could make a culture different from others. If without rituals and ceremonies, it is hard for people to preserve their culture identity. If a nation cancels its unique festival, the nation is like a person who loses his or her personality. For that matter, to some extent rituals and ceremonies act a significant role in preserving culture identity.

However, culture contains a variety of facets. Rituals and ceremonies are just a part of culture. It is subjective to believe that without them, societies or groups of people have a diminished sense of who they are. For one thing, culture includes language, the way people dress and so forth. People could distinguish different groups by judging their hair color and their clothes. For instance, the minority people have their own and unique clothes such as Tibetan, which could make them different from others. The people from diverse areas have different color in hair and skin. The Asian’s skin is always yellow, while the Western’s is mainly white. Thus all these factors contribute to the distinctness of each culture. For another thing, rituals and ceremonies mainly reflect the religious belief of culture to some extent. In my opinion, the deep understanding of a culture needs to learn the history of the culture. Also the preservation of a culture needs to pay more attention to the history education. If we do not pay attention to the history study, it is difficult for people to conserve the culture since the culture is the combination of some economy and politics and different backgrounds create different cultures.【个人感觉这里没说清楚,有点绕,但又写不出来】

In conclusion, rituals and ceremonies place a vital role in the conservation of culture. However other factors such as the clothes and history make people different from other groups. To preserve the identity of a culture, it is necessary to emphasize the history education.

However, culture contains a variety of facets. Rituals and ceremonies are just a part of culture. 从这里往后我觉得是讲preserve the culture了和这段主旨有点不合,建议另起一段讲nor are rituals and ceremonies the only means to preserve cultural distinctness,大家觉得呢?] In my opinion, the deep understanding of a culture needs to learn the history of the culture. Also the preservation of a culture needs to pay more attention to the history education. In conclusion, rituals and ceremonies place a vital role in the conservation of culture. However other factors such as the clothes and history make people different from other groups. 这里总结的很好,全点到了To preserve the identity of a culture, it is necessary to emphasize the history education.

肯定题目前半句否定后半句,思路逻辑很清晰,还是限时写的,更了不得了
这个题目真的很难写,我的这篇还没有写呢

Admittedly, rituals and ceremonies do help define a culture. Since rituals and ceremonies are handed down from one generation to another, the meaning of rituals and ceremonies contain the historical backgrounds of a culture and the origin of a culture. There is persuasive example to illustrate this viewperspective. As we all know, Thanksgiving Day is a legal holiday annually in the United States and some other North America areas. It is a custom to express gratitude for God's blessings and celebrating a plentiful harvest.感恩节好像是为了感谢印地安人的 In keeping with such ideas, preparing and eating a large meal is a central part of most Thanksgiving celebration, including turkey, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie and so on. For that matter, to some extents是不是移到后面更合适呢 rituals and ceremonies act a significant role in preserving culture identity.

However, culture contains a variety of facets. Rituals and ceremonies are just a part of culture. It is subjective to believe that without them, societies or groups of people have a diminished sense of who they are 这样说 好像有背于上段所说,还不如说,other factors can also help sustain the sense of indentity.. For one thing, culture includes language, the way people dress and so forth. People could distinguish different groups by judging their hair color and their clothes. For instance, the minority people have their own and unique clothes such as Tibetan, which could make them different from others. The people from diverse areas have different color in hair and skin. The Asian’s skin is always yellow, while the Western’s is mainly white.这个好像不是文化的部分吧 Thus all these factors contribute to the distinctness of each culture. For another thing, rituals and ceremonies mainly reflect the religious belief of culture to some extent.这里突然来一句不知道怎么回事In my opinion, the deep understanding of a culture needs to learnlearning the history of the culture. Also the preservation of a culture needs to pay more attention to the history education. If we do not pay attention to the history study, it is difficult for people to conserve the culture since the culture is the combination of some economy and politics and different backgrounds create different cultures这个逻辑相反了吧.【个人感觉这里没说清楚,有点绕,但又写不出来】

In conclusion, rituals and ceremonies place a vital role in the conservation of culture. However other factors such as the clothes and history make people different from other groups. To preserve the identity of a culture, it is necessary to emphasize the history education.
写other factors 的时候可以写big city, 写英雄,写年轻人的趋势啊,组题嘛
感觉好像把第三段写复杂了,history 感觉在凑字数,而且我感觉ritual 就是一种history education,anyway楼主的文章还是很精彩的
