Now we have numerous of new methods to document what happen around us due to the development of technology and science. Video camera, one of most cutting-edge equipments, is a convenient instruction. But traditional written records continue to be the mainstream circumstance of recording. Therefore, it is not accurate to infer that written records is out of date just because of the highlight of the new rival.

Video cameras have many obvious advantages that could meet all sorts of needs in different situation for different purpose. First, video camera's crucial function is that it could perfectly replay what happened according its record. For example, when a bank rubbery taking place, the police fail to catch the robbers, they may confirm the robbers' important characters by watching the document. Therefore, it will shorten the progress of punish the violence. Second, when traveling to a beautiful city or having a party with sincerely friends, we can keep up the perfect second by using the video camera. These wonderful moments can be reviewed again and again by this fantastic novelty. Further, we may watch the documentation of some giant person for memory. Third, it could tell the person what happened exactly. After a football match, the score will analyze everyone's performance by the video record. Their fault and their shorts are all clearly pointed out by the score and they can watch their performance through the video. All above could hardly be achieved by the written records.

We have to concede that traditional written records are still the mainstream form of documentation. Most of the documents and knowledge are preserved by books. In the current time, books remain popular with the populace. Schools use books to teach students, novelists publish their work by books and so on. Comparing to new develop technology, traditional way cost less and do not need much technology support. What's more, it focuses more in details that can describe the whole progress. For example, we could know the exactly data of one couple's income and cost from their tax list. Through the camera, we could know just their house and its decoration.

Admittedly, traditional written records have some disadvantages. For one thing, written record may infer the author's own opinion about some events. When coming to the historical events, it may mislead the readers. For another thing, written records are not easy to conserve. Paper will decay with the time goes. In such condition, video record shows its merits.

It is true that both way of documentation have advantages and disadvantages, they show their special function in different angle. Only combine them together can show contribution to us most. For example, schools can use book to show the basic knowledge about one animal, and use video to reflect them true life. Apparently, with the pace of this method, both forms of documentation are better used.
