The video camera provides such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life that it has become a more important form of documentation than written records.

With the development of science and technology, the video camera plays a significant role in recording contemporary life because of its accuracy and convincement. It is obviously that the video camera has become a more important and popular form of documentation than written records. But it cannot take place the traditional written records in a foreseeable future. Besides, only through the association of the two different ways of recording, the next generations can get all-sided recordings.

To begin with, the advantages of video camera are clear to see. With the pictures and images, which made by the video cameras, people can obtain more directed information about what had happened before or how the original equipment liked rather than reading the stories written of ancestors and postulate the spectacle of the events and stuff. For example, it is difficult for modern youngsters to image that what the first automobile or aircraft was like. They can get some information in the written records about the precise number of its shape, but they cannot draw a proper picture in their minds about the stuff. With the help of video documentation, like a photograph or a film, they will have an all-sided and exact imagination of the stuff.

Besides, with the development of digital technology and internet, people can easily and quickly get the useful video documentation from others. For instance, when there is a big event occurs, the journalists will try their best to make more camera documentations, such as pictures and images, and then send them through the internet to public. People, even live in the other side of the earth, will soon know what has taken place.

Furthermore, the camera documentations occupy smaller space than that of written records. Take the memory stick of digital camera as a good example. The memory stick, which likes a tiny card, contains thousands of pictures in it. The volume of it is only about 10 cubic centimeters, or even much smaller. But the written records account for hundreds and thousands of space compared with video recordings. Therefore, the video record is more convenient for people to carry with.

Nevertheless, we should admit that nothing in the world is perfect. The video camera cannot be used in every circumstance. We cannot neglect the significant role of written documentations in recording events. On the one hand, the video documentation can only applied in recording real events, it cannot show anything about the dreams or imaginations of people. However, the written records, such as the novels of fantasy, can tell the amazing events to people. On the other hand, the video records sometimes cannot show the general and detailed information about the certain issue in a relatively short period.

As presented above, the video cameras provide an innovative way of recording and help the happened events easily revealed to the last generations in a more vivid way. While, without the written documentations, it is impossible to get general and detailed information about the history. As a result, the two different media should compensate with each other to preserve the contemporary society and people’s lives completely to the next generations.

It is obviously that the video camera has become a more important and popular （"popular" indicates low quality. Here "prevailing" may substitute for it）form of documentation than written records. But it cannot take place (take the place of)the traditional written records in a foreseeable future. Besides, only through the association（用在这里不太合适，不妨查查association的英文解释，我觉得这里用collaboration比较好） of the two different ways (means) of recording, the next generations can get all-sided recordings.
