I agree with the speaker's broad opinion, but when it comes to specifics, my view is distinct. This issue is more complex than the speaker asserts,  my discussion is as below .
      Firstly, indeed, it is common to leaders insist on particular princinples and objectives . Above all, Leaders always have all-round perspective about the field  in which they plays, for they can obtain more information, and have to deal with the relationships, which are more involved, among different social levels. For instance, sometimes political leaders will enact something unacceptable, especially in diplomatic affairs. A lot of  people should be protesting it, for their own interests or blindness patriotism. while the leaders must not be shaked,  because they  have to take country benefits into account at one hand; at other hand, they also need to consider the relationship among nations.Though many American soldiers sacrificed in Iraq, the president still sound insist on for the purpose of maintaining national state and country benefit.
      Admittedly, there are also many negative outcomes and even disasters resulted from leaders' arbitrary character in history. This is human's nature that, once have been great achieves, individuals always too condidently to find self-defects or to see other people's advantadge. And so the leaders gradually neglect other's opinions and the public's voice, even dream to replace the status of God.At last almost all of those greatness inevitabley become tyrants, reproved by the nation and even the world . Such as Hitler  who brought the entire world into war and calamity; Stalin and Mao who leaded to respective country backing and even collapse.
      However, it is hard to accept a variabilitily leader who  change minds just because of what people saying.  An effective leader must have independent thinking, sound volition. People rarely comprehend larger partion of long-term projects, which will be bound to suffer someone. Thus leader should conform to own opinion, no matter how massive is the pressure from outside.
And also people will not support and admire a powerless and variability leader, people will apereciate leader' new coat every day, but a leader has new attitude to the same event each day is certainly incurring the public's accusement.  
      In conclusion, due to their's all-round sight, leaders should commit to particular intentions and principles, in the premise of behalf on majority; plainly enough a leader does not resolution is bound to loss people's respect and faith,  let alone effective leadership.
