TOPIC: ISSUE 130 - "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."
提纲:
观点:.同意socialization determines the destiny of society. 但在教育上却存在很多问题,有些甚至无法解决.
1. socialization determines the destiny of society
2.学校教育
3. 家庭教育
4. 社会影响
Actually speaking, the socialization of children does have major impact on the development of a society, as is acknowledged to an increasing number of people. Thus, how to raise children to well function in the future society has become one of the defining issues and caused wide public concern. The general socialization, in my view, consists of three parts: school education, family education, and the one from social community. Admittedly, the government, educators and parents have spared no effort to make education better and we have benefited much from it. However, there are still something left to be desired and sometimes we even feel helpless about the new emergent problems arising from social development and technological advancement.
To begin with, there is no denying that the young generation will play a major role in the coming future. For a better society, we must see them growing up healthily both physically and psychologically. Their developed values will determine the direction which the society runs toward. If we can instill them the right international relationships, wars can be more easily avoided which then help us build a harmonious society. It is, of course, science and technology that affect our life and society. In the meantime, however, it is humankind who manipulates it. But the process of children socialization is a far more complex and sophisticated one that has both achievements and potential problems.
As for the school education, though many reforms have been carried out according to social need, yet it still should be improved in many details. Despite the improvements such as more emphasis stressed on innovation and the initiative of learning and more education opportunities offered to the general children, government are often left into a dilemma or trouble on educational issues. For example, the long-time cramming educational system is so deep-rooted that we can barely get away from it though some western countries have achieved much success in their heuristic and quality education. As a result, when entering college, they are found weak in discovery and research study. Moreover, educators seem to be in a quandary about the balance between required and optional subjects, the extent to which we should broaden the teaching scope and the levels of attainment.
For the second place, family education is considered as important as the school one to teach children about basic skills and behavior norms. Some traditional culture would be carry down through family way. However, a growing rate of divorce, especially in western countries, has left children in an unwholesome environment. They become distrustful of others or isolate themselves from peers. As a result, they are more inclined to form strange personality and are less skilled at interpersonal communication. Moreover, different culture may result in different problems that we may not expect, like the one-child policy in China. It is reported that this new generation are more presumptuous and self-centered and often fail to negotiate or compromise in conflict. And as a general case, parents are often in trouble with the balance between physical punishment and parental praise for education.
For the last one, the education from the social part have potentially involves problems and risk. Firstly, the rapid science and technology have largely improved people's life, but at the meantime do harm to the children who are vulnerable to social ills. Violence or indecent programs on Internet or TV plays is typical in case. The young are also indulged in computer games and on-line fantasy. It is reported that there is a growing number of juvenile delinquencies which should lend us much consideration about the social education. Though the government has take certain steps in the related issues, however, these potential problems can never be eliminated unless the social development ends.
To sum up, how well the young generation is socialized does indeed determine the coming future of the society. As showed in the preceding argument, the formal education in school, through our more attention and endeavors, has achieved much accomplishment in children's personality and social ability. On the other hand, with social development, quite a lot unexpected problems arise and have adverse impact on children to which extent we can never escape. |
