题目
"Although the sales of Whirlwind video games have declined over the past two years, a recent survey of video-game players suggests that this sales trend is about to be reversed. The survey asked video-game players what features they thought were most important in a video game. According to the survey, players prefer games that provide lifelike graphics, which require the most up-to-date computers. Whirlwind has just introduced several such games with an extensive advertising campaign directed at people 10 to 25 years old, the age-group most likely to play video games. It follows, then, that the sales of Whirlwind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months."

Giving some facts and analyses, the arguer makes a conclusion that the sales of Whirlwind (w) video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months. Although it seems credible on the surface, careful examination would reveal the hidden flaws in the arguer's reasoning.
In the first place, the arguer provides no evidence that the survey is statistically reliable. The arguer offers no information about the number of the samples and the gender, age, occupations of the sample which are also very important to ensure that the result can represent the overall population. For example, if the survey just investigates no more than 100 people, its result can not represent the attitude of the overall population. Further, if the samples are all children or women players, the result cannot show the attitude and the desire of men players. In short, the arguer should provide more information to substantiate that the survey can show the attitude of the all population and the result is statistically reliable.
In the second place, even the arguer can justify that the survey is reliable; it is unfair to conclude that the lifelike graphics is the most vital factor which will determine the consumers' decisions. It is entirely possible that other factors such as the content, the topic, the sound and whether the games are easily played are also very important for the players to choose the video games. Without considering these factors, the arguer cannot convince me that whirlwind video games can sale well.
Last but not least, even though the arguer can substantiate that lifelike graphics are crucial for the video games, the arguer unfairly concludes that whirlwind's game directed at people 20-25 years old can increase drastically in the few months. It is likely that the target consumers are not the people who express the attitude in the survey, so the target consumers may do not believe that the lifelike graphics are important. What is more, it is possible that the consumers 10-25 years old have not a lot of money,so they cannot afford the most up-to-date computers which is required for the lifelike graphic games. In addition, if there are some other companies which have attracted a myriad of people, the w cannot acquire profit in the future. Also, concerning that w games have declined over the past two years, perhaps consumers have bad image for w company or there are some flaws in the company’s market strategies or the procedures of the games. Further, the sales of the game could decrease if there is a depression in the next few months. Disregarding these possibilities, the arguer cannot justify that the sales of w games will increase in the future.
To sum up, the argument is not persuasive as it stands. To make it more convincing, the arguer should provide more information about the survey and the market condition.
