The following appeared in a memo from the president of a chain of cheese stores located throughout the United States.
'For many years all the stores in our chain have stocked a wide variety of both domestic and imported cheeses. Last year, however, the five best-selling cheeses at our newest store were all domestic cheddar cheeses from Wisconsin. Furthermore, a recent survey by Cheeses of the World magazine indicates an increasing preference for domestic cheeses among its subscribers. Since our company can reduce expenses by limiting inventory, the best way to improve profits in all of our stores is to discontinue stocking many of our varieties of imported cheese and concentrate primarily on domestic cheeses.'

The president recommends to discontinue stocking imported cheeses and concentrate on domestic cheeses, in order to improve profits. To support this conclusion, the president demonstrates cheese sales at the newest store, a recent survey conducted by Cheeses of the World magazine, and the possibility to reduce expenses by limiting inventory. However, none of them can powerfully back up the president's recommendation.

First of all, it is unreasonable deduce from the sales at the newest store that imported cheeses are less favored than domestic cheeses. Although the five best-selling cheeses at the newest store last year were all domestic cheeses, the representability of such situations should be carefully examined, since the president's stores are located throughout the United States. Do customers of other chain stores also prefer the domestic cheddar cheeses from Wisconsin? Will such domestic cheese remain favorable in the following years? It the answer is no, it is unwise to stop stocking imported cheeses and concentrate on domestic ones.

Besides, it is unverified to assert a national increasing preference for domestic cheeses. The credibility and representability of the survey conducted by Cheeses of the World magazine have not been judged yet. Can the questions asked in the survey indicate the actual inclinations of respondents? Can the respondents involved in the survey, the subscribers of the magazine, represent the vast majority of cheese consumers? Without answering such questions, it is unwise to take the results of the survey for granted.

Furthermore, even if domestic cheeses are more favored than imported cheeses, it is unsubstantiated to claim that the company can save expenses by concentrate on domestic ones. Although the company may be able to reduce some purchasing expenses by limiting inventory, the changes of other relevant expenses have not been evaluated, such as the expenses on transportation and preservation. If most domestic cheeses are more expensive to be transported or preserved than imported ones, the president cannot expect real reduction of expenses by stopping stocking imported cheese and concentrating on domestic ones.

In conclusion, the president's recommendation is not convincing enough to be accepted, as neither the national preference of domestic cheeses nor the possibility to reduce expenses by limiting inventors are doubtful.

最后一段在说这种降低成本的方式可能不成功，分析得透彻，但是我觉得arguer说要limiting inventory的意思主要是要提高profits，所以需要从强调怎样才能有效的提高效益上来说更好，不知道你怎么看
还有，你和那位同学都没提出survey中全球情况和地区情况间可能有差异这点，是不是这点不是主要问题？我有点不自信了，我觉得还是很重要的。
