Is that the reading books is not as important as it once was and people can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books? As the speaker claiming, we may get the further conclusion that the television can thoroughly and significantly take the place of books in the age of television. I can only partly agree with the above statement. To some special extent, the announcer strongly overstates and highlight the place of television concerning the acquisition of knowledge.
Firstly, the television can not completely replace the books about learning. Since the human being civilization, the books composed of paper and some other materials as always bridge the passing of history and knowledge as well as technology. The gifted present people learn and comprehend our ancestors, the original circumstance and history through reading books. The merit of books can be listed as following: for one thing, the books are easily to take from east hemisphere to west hemisphere without costing you much. For another thing, you can detailedly make notes when you read books, and the books will not reject to serve you despite it is day or night and regardless of permission of lights and electricity. Furthermore,it is the common sense that the books are cheap and the basic carrier of knowledge, and the books are diversified for any group of people including the old, the young and even both the deaf and the blind. How can we easily admit that the television can place the high significance instead of the books?
Secondly, the television has its shortcomings. Admittedly, it is not difficult for us to understand that the televisions are not popular and does not fits all the part of world even all the people living in the earth. On one hand, the television are not suitable to the deaf and the blind. The books can meet the command of the deaf and the blind with the help of braille. The television maybe not cheap enough to some people at the edge of starving and poverty even death and so forth. The books achieve that. On another hand, maybe you will not take a television with you when you travel around the world. but the books are easy to take without much weight. What's more, as the development of knowledge and techknowlege, the televisions are bad for our health for its radiation even threatening our eyes. And the television will not replay what it was just showing to as you think. You can not make some notes in the television programmes. Moreover, the television show the audio and the video to you leading to limit your imagine for further comprehension.
To sum up, to some special extent, the television can not fully take the place of books for the characters of both the televisions and the books in the information times. Obviously, the television is gradually and growingly becoming the mainstream carrier of information. The televsion and the books exsiting in the new times can only be compliable to need of our lives. All of them are both required and either of them can not erase the left one as time goes by. Maybe someday there will be another new media delivered into the world. |
