TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
WORDS: 416 DATE: 2006-11-24
提纲:
A. Education which is specially designed to meet the individual needs and interests will become more effective.
B. Comparing to the enormous number of students, educational resources are limited.
C. Education should also meet to the social demand.
The speaker asserts that only when education is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student, it will be truly effective. I agree insofar as the assertion that education which is specially designed to cater to the individual need and interests become more effective. However, the statement is indefensible. In my view, the word "only" is too absolute. Education mode is limited by educational resources and should meet the social demand.
First of all, I agree to the statement that specially designed education is of great importance. Such educational system can attract the students and invigorate the students' potential capability. Here is a example that can support my reason--Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who's a world famous Austrian composer. His father, One of Europe's leading musical teachers, discovered his gift and interest in music when Mozart is a little guy, and gave him specially designed musical training. Finally, Mozart developed into a great composer in history. Therefore, specially designing education is a indispensable educational mode.
Beyond this concession, however, I disagree with the statement that the only truly effective education. This statement is too absolutely. Although specially designed education is very important, it is impossible to meet the needs and interests of each student. Because comparing to the enormous number of students, the educational is limited. A telling example of this involve that in a school of 1,000 students, each student may have different need, thus, the number of teachers is too few to meet the need; the equipments to cater to the students' interests are insufficient; the courses to meet the needs are enough.
Furthermore, education should also meet the social demand. Students are unlikely to gain an integrated structure education and become fully developed student if they are offered a completely specially designed education. And these students obviously do not accord with the social demand. For example, to be an architect, whose occupation needs the knowledge of math, aesthetics and mechanics. So, when one wants to be an architect, but does not interested in math, he or she cannot become a architect because the specially designed education will not offer he or she the math courses. Therefore, specially designed education should not take the place of traditional education
In sum, I concede that specially designed education plays a significant role in modern education. However, the speaker's assertion overstates the importance of specially designed education. In the final analysis, in my opinion, education should cater to the educational resources and social needs. |
