Will tourism soon become obsolete as the consequence of the television and worldwide computer connections? The speaker claims so. I concede that the television and computer connection, or otherwise, the internet could provide us great amount of information about places of interest or other tourism attractions, however, the practical visiting of a certain place brings about vivid and interesting experiences and lead to profound impressions which television and internet inherently cannot.

Admittedly, the television and internet are a marked resource of knowledge and information that benefit us in many ways. Therefore it can replace the tourism in some measure. With the help of the television, we don't need to travel a long way to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon, we don't need to climb 8848 miles to appreciate the sunrise at the peak of the Everest simply because these sight views are all shot in the video tapes that we could easily watch them from the screen. Those video tapes are even much more alluring than actual views because the videos are all processed by experts. Moreover, with the emergence of the internet, it is convenient to search for pictures and information of a specific place, and the information is more reasonable and scientific such as geographic or populations data.  And we could also get the experiences of others who have traveled there and shared in the internet.

However, the computer connection and television are not advanced enough to afford us experiences and impressions as reality recently, and in a predictable time period, entire virtual reality cannot be innovated. For example, we could view the sights in the television or computer. However, the customs, traditions and common trait of people living in a certain place have to be tasted by actually being there in person.  As for now, our own experiences of traveling could bring us much more pleasure and excitements than just watching videos or surfing the internet. And also it is the contact with people, not just the views that makes the traveling attractive. It is always the person who we traveled with or met during tours that render the tour memorable, not the tour itself. In this case, the television and computer connect have nothing to do with such experiences.

More specifically, let's have a look at the historical sites which is a main attraction of travelers. It is possible to have all the antiques or other ancient treasures displayed as pictures in the internet or taped in the video. But when you face the glorious works of our ancestors, it is another profound impression. I consider that is the reason why so many people are willing to travel to the Great Wall; it is not the wall, but the remainder of the history, the incitement of our inner impulse as a mankind to discovery the pace of our ancestors that count. In addition, it is also impossible for television or internet to provide us the same amount of satisfaction as natural scenery spots. These technology products could never bring us the feelings that we are harmonious parts of the world which nature resorts could offer. And the real touches of the nature are much more effective than mere the pictures, word, audios, videos or others that the screen could display to us.

To sum up, in spit of the abundant benefits that the television and computer connection provide us, including some functions of real traveling, it is too specious to make the conclusion that the tourism will soon be obsolete in that historical sites, natural sceneries and man-made places of interest have many distinctive aspects that the technology products cannot afford.
