Issue 38    time:45min  words:400

According to the speaker, reading book spales in importance compared to watching television with the respect to learning information and knowledge now that television program can convey much than books. I concede that the assertion is reasonable when it comes to the fact that the advances in television media technology provide people with amore convenient and vivid means for acquiring knowledge. However, the speaker overestimates the significance of televisions and overlooks the importance of books--the traditional methods for studying.

Admittedly, with the advancement in electronical technology, especially in television media, people might learn much through TV set. Additionally, compared with books, television can provide more vivid and rapid information about almost every aspect of human lives, including the political affairs, sports news, and some scientific knowledge. In other words,in the age of television, it is possible for people to acquire any information they want while staying at home. Thus, the television plays a very important role in the learning endeavors.

Nevertheless, we should keep in mind the fact that the television's ultimate objective is for entertainment   rather than learning. After all, the television media career involves the profit-oriented procedure. Imagine that atelevision channel which is replete with learning programs but has little ones for fun might lose many audiences, while which can lead to an consequential decline in profits. Thus, television, the tool for entertainment, cannotreplace the role of learning means and the best way for learning is to read books.

Furthermore, another reason why I fundamentally disagree with the speaker involves the fact that when it comes to some profound and complicated knowledge system, books have obvious advantages over televisions. An apt illustration involves the studying process in acomplex subject such as mathematics and physics, which is composed of abstract equations and concepts. Few would argue that nobody can deeply understand the essential notions of these subjects merely through television programs. This perhaps explains the fact that in colleges or universities, students often learn through books rather than watching televisions.

To sum up, thespeaker's claim is reasonable to some extent, particularly when it comes to the fact that by television people can get information more rapidly and conveniently. However, the speaker unnecessarily indicates that reading books is not as important as it once was. In my opinion, people should make good use of the television while without ignoring the importance of books.
