Does video camera can take the place of written records? According to the speaker the answer is 'yes'. I agree with the speaker that video camera is an important means of recording. Yet, I think the speaker understates the significance of the written records.

Admittedly, video camera as a accurate, vivid, objective manner of recording has been played a bigger part in different media. In several field, video camera has obvious advantages. For instance, no matter how well a recorder discribes a scene such as the fascinating aurora, the world largest cataract--Niagara Falls or the magnificent coral of the Great Barrier Reef, he or she cannot provide the experience which the video camera presents. How to note the shifting and colorful aurora or the different coral types by language? How to describe the splendid scene of the Niagara Falls? I cannot conjure up any wards to describe these scenes. In addition, in the legal proceedings video camera also palys a crucial part. For the accurate images Video camera could provide a great number of information of robbery, traffic accidents and so forth which would help the lawyers and judges a lot.

Moreover, another application of video camera is to record the important invents and daily life. From the Olympic games to NBA, video camera presents the vivid scenes which let us feel that we are the spectators in the stadium. Besides, diary cannot show the weddingreception or the old friends’ party which happened many years ago. By using the video camera, we could note these golden memories accurately and vividly.

However, the author neglects the disadvantages of video camera. For one thing, video camera is not as convenient as the books to use. It needs electricity and video tapes or Smart cards. Assuming that a exploring team is in the tropic forest, and they only take video cameras, once the video cameras are out of power, they cannot record anything. For another thing, the cost for recording by using video camera is much higher than by written records. One video camera is worth thousands of notebooks and this is one significant reason that why video cameras are not widespread.

Finally, written records have several merits, especially for recording the laws, ideas, and policies. For example, I would be hardpressed to think of how to note the EuclideanGeometry by video camera. Besides, assuming that we don not use the bills to record the information which account that the goods we buy, then we would have to camera every item we bought. It is really inefficient and time-consuming. So in certain facets, the role of written records is very important as well.
