Should all nations support the development of a global university in order to engage students in the process of solving the world’s most persistent social problems as the speaker claims? I fundamentally concede the speaker’s claim in the respect of the benefits of the global university would bring us. Meanwhile, the process of setting up an effective and just global university is tough and complicated which requires the synergy collaboration of many nations and patience. Also persistent social problem could not be properly addressed merely by the foundation of the university.

To begin with, the globalization or the unification of the world beyond the boundary are the inevitable trend in the evolvement of human beings, especially at present, the worldwide connections are greatly enhanced by the improvement of technologies. The international market, the regional organization such as EPEC, and the multinational collaborations in the fields of scientific research are playing an increasingly important role in the current world, and all of which are the reflections of the process of globalization and unification. In this sense, establishing a global university is a great approach to enhance such trend. It is necessary to cultivate a certain amount of people who master the knowledge of different cultures and also are informed with global circumstances and therefore are capable of addressing international issues and enhancing the connection among nations as well, in other words, the international person could provide the intellectual resource which is crucial in globalization.  

Moreover, such university could improve the understanding of cultures, customs and other distinctive features of diverse nations. A university is a place that could disseminate and pervade thoughts and ideas. By the interactions and blending of various cultures, a sense of assimilation and cooperation could be nurtured in the university and then permeate throughout the world. Besides, the global university could gather the support of all nations to accomplish some significant achievements. Through converging the top intellects from different countries, obtaining international financial support and the collaboration of the governments, some persistent social problems could be solved which otherwise may difficult to deal with.

The set up of global university could add to the overall well being of human, meanwhile, the difficulty in the process of founding a global university should not be neglected. It is difficult to win the support of all countries simply because the conditions of countries are dramatically different. Some third world countries even struggle in feeding their people, to support the global university is obviously exceed their capacities. Furthermore, different nations have their own standpoints and benefits; it is hard to make the consensus among then. And the control of the university is another point that may arouse disagreement. To build a fair and effective university purposed on solving the persistent social problems is an originative activity which inherently companied with setbacks, regressions and depressions. Hence nations participate in the program need consistent confidence about the success of the university and offer continuous supports. Short-sighted behaviors will inflict harm to the emergency and developments of the global university.

Another uncertainty of the global university is its function is addressing persistent social problems, such as the environmental pollution, the disposal of nuclear weapon, the exploit and allocation of natural resource, the conflicts between civilizations and the like.
