TOPIC: ISSUE38 - "In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books."
提纲:
1。电视能帮助人们学习。(知识面大、能吸引人)
2。书籍能更系统更深入地帮人们学习。
3。书籍能更灵活的更方便的帮人们学习。

It can not be denied that television play an increasingly significant role for education of human being, but the statement only skins the surface of the problem the moment we think it is unlikely that people can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books. Actually, as a traditional means of learning, reading books cannot be replaced by any other avenue.

Granted, television can help a lot in study in our times. First, television almost contains all fields of knowledge, which might are in books filled with a whole library. In addition, television offers vivid video on screen and voice introduction from speakers, which interest people to learn more than in books. Moreover, people can choose their interested programs flexibly arrange time schedule on their own. Such improvements will certainly enhance the role of television for education and information propagating of human being.

It is true that television play an increasingly significant role for the education of human being. But when it comes to abstract ideas and theories, and comparison, the traditional books are obviously more efficient. Take the study of electromagnetic wave for instance, we could see how waves propagate and transmit in different kinds of media, and at the same time listening to the introduction of background knowledge. Yet if we want a more detailed knowledge of the skeleton structure of EMW, we will have to refer to relevant books. Even if such knowledge can also be presented on television, it can not be arranged as systematically as it is in books, and one cannot absorb all information on television without any review or reference.

Moreover, reading books is an active process, in which we can make choice of what, when and to which extent we want to learn. Television cannot provide such convenience. Watching television is rather a passive procedure of learning. The television programs are arranged, so what people can make are limited choices. If people are interested in some details or just missed them when watching TV, they will have to turn to relevant books for reference. Books also cheaper and in greater purvey compared to television. We can bring books with us and read any part at any time, yet we will have to wait for a TV program before it is set at fixed time.

It is still impossible for television to take the place of books which is the most convenient and systematical way to study, though television making learning interesting and lively.
