According to the speaker, our society has not emphasized the intellect, such as reasoning and other cognitive skills. I strongly disagree with this claim. On the contrary, in my view, our society has actually given enough emphasis on it while overlooks the significance of the non-intellectual field to certain extent. On balance, it is reasonable for us to combine the two different forms of endeavors to make a greater development of the society as well as ourselves.(放在这是什么意思啊?请指教)(很漂亮的开头有清晰立场观点)
To begin with, when it comes to our education, the speaker's claim shows its limitation obviously. Our educational procedure amounts to an intellect-seeking process. An apt example involves the children-stage education. Common sense tells us that when we teach children in their early ages, we usually train them to recognize words and numbers, and following teach them simple calculation. All the endeavors are involved in the intellect training. Moreover, as for the higher education, no matter what subjects students major in, even for the art majors, they must study mathematics--one subject constructed by pure calculating and reasoning. This(it) illustrates that our society has not ignored the importance of intellect. Therefore, the speaker's assertion that society does not place enough emphasis on intellect amounts to an overstatement with respect to education area.
Furthermore, human's civilizing history shows that our society concentrates too much emphasis on intellect. Before the middle-ages, people lived in the power of religious forces and the influence of Deity--that is non-intellectual world(人家也是学习的吧……). It is just because of the endeavors in science and technology that people acquire the opportunities to live in a more civilized society. When we refer to this point, some great scientists such as--Galileo, Copernicus, Newton, Einstein, and so on, might come into our minds. No one would deny that all of them are the elites of intellect. Since society as well as history gives the most significant honors to them, how can we conclude that our society does not place enough emphasis on the intellect? However, it is unreasonable to merely emphasize the intellect while ignoring the significance of non-intellectualfields. After all, human is not(a) machine for calculating and reasoning, which are best left to computers. Human is one species with spirits and emotions which are beyond the abilities of intellectual endeavors. Thus, certain non-intellectual areas such as art, plays an important role in balancing our lives and making our world more colorful.(要有个例子多好) Therefore, we should combine the two forms of endeavor and make good uses of both.
To sum up, the speaker unfairly indicates that our society underemphasizes the importance of the intellect. In my view, intellect and non-intellect are both indispensable for our society and ourselves. We should take a balanced view on them and make full use of them in order to make our world better.
