99"In any realm of life—whether academic, social, business, or political—the only way to succeed is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view. Pragmatic behavior guarantees survival, whereas idealistic views tend to be superceded by simpler, more immediate options."

1 任何工作必须建立在已有经验的基础上,否则无法生存。
2 追求和理想是发展,以至成功的必备条件,适用于科学,商业,政治和社会。
3 必须两者兼顾,才能生存,并最终有所成就。

Which is the best way to reach one's maximum potential: to be practical, or to be idealistic? Some people prefer the former, which is the heritage left by the predecessors and, of more importance, has been proved to be effective to attain one's success. I believe that, however, idealistic views is more valuable than pragmatic ones and this point can be justified by examples in the areas of academic, business and politics and society.

Admittedly, pragmatic behaviors, through which the wonderful world we live in today is built, have been practiced by the people before us. These rules and criteria are the bedrock on which the way leading to anyone's achievement is built. Take Isaac Newton, one of the most famous scientists in the history, for example. When talking about his great accomplishment, the theory of gravitation, Newton said that:’ If I have seen farther than others, it is because that I was sanding on the shoulders of giants.' In other words, he believed that his success was based on the achievements, which are considered to be practical without any doubt, of the former scientists. Therefore, this point of view may sufficiently illustrate the importance of practical behavior.

However, pragmatic behavior is necessary but far less adequate for one's success, because no matter in the history or in our modern society competition is so extensive in any realm that it calls for people's new ideas, which is always the reflection of idealism, to win over their opponents  and to realize their dreams .

In the science, innovation and progress can only result from challenging practical experiences and theories which has existed and accepted by most of the people. One good example involves Newton, whom I have mentioned before. If he limited his researches within the domain described by the former physicists and ultimately accepted their classical theories, Newton would not make any breakthrough in physics. In addition, the same story happened again in the 20th, when Einstein, another famous physics scientist, put forward his new theory of relativity by abandoning the classical theory which was founded just by Newton. It is their own idealistic views that help them to overthrow the old but still functional theories and to build new ones.

In the business, no matter individuals or companies that make the most money are those who come up with new ideas and do every effort to realize them. For example, Amazon.com, a company that sells books on the Internet rather than the traditional method, makes its way out to be one of the biggest bookstores in the whole world.

In social and political area, the men we remember best are those rule-breakers who broke through the traditional theories of the values of society and tried to establish a new world that was confirm to their own idealism. One apt illustration of this point involves Abraham Lincoln. Even though slavery had existed in American for a few centuries, and many powerful political corporations support such a regime, Lincoln still believed that human were born equal and finally became the leader of abolitionists. Today, few of us will deny that Lincoln is the greatest political leader in human history.

In conclusion, when we talk about achievement and success, we should never ignore the vital role played by idealism. Though practical behaviors and rules pave the road for one's achievement, it is always idealistic views that make one out of mediocrity and to be excellent.

这次的作业写的很痛苦,主要是没有充分理解题目,什么叫idealism?现在都还没明白:P
大家先看看,使劲拍~

重新想了一个提纲:
99"In any realm of life—whether academic, social, business, or political—the only way to succeed is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view. Pragmatic behavior guarantees survival, whereas idealistic views tend to be superceded by simpler, more immediate options."
