In general, I agree with the assertion that using image is able to transmit information to the public efficiently. However, the statement overlooks the efficiency and importance of language as a communication tool. In my opinion, image and language are both effective to convey idea or value to a large crowd of people.  [50]

On the one hand, information contained in image is more vivid and direct for audience to comprehend. As a result, we would easily express ideas or values for the public by an impressive image. For example, the famous political poster “I want you for U.S. Army” during the period of war was used to encourage enlistment in the army. Many young men was affected by the power and loyalty embodied in this kind of posters. In the field of art, a painting in which materials was selected or shaped could convey an idea, an emotional, or visually interesting form for viewers. During the renaissance, painting was an important means of communicating central idea---humanism of the era of revival on which dignity and worth of individual were emphasized. In short, using image might be an effective means that communicate an idea or value to a great deal of people in some cases.  [150]

On the other hand, language, as we know, is primary means used by human to communicate with one another. Therefore language has strong ability of transmitting values or ideas to people by speaking or writing. For instance, before the World War II, the worldwide economic depression gives Hitler opportunities to speak throughout Germany, because of his excellent speech, he recruited numerous followers who believe his ideas and supported him fanatically. Finally, he built the power of Nazi by democratic means and then took human beings to hell. Another example of the language’s effect is the Holy Bible, the sacred book influences hundreds of thousands Christians in the world. As a matter of fact, it is obvious that language is always an efficient approach to convey values or ideas to large crowd of people. [130]

Nevertheless, both of the language and image have flaws in communication. Transmitting messages by speaking and writing required the audiences having some level of literacy. It is possible that people who come from different countries and have their own native languages would misunderstand each other inevitably even if they pay attention to the same message. In addition, sometimes in order to understand further the real ideas of an image, a title or an explanation is needed. In some special cases, using both Image and language might be a better way for communicating information to public. The noticeable example is using of slide in teaching. Teachers could present abstract ideas and skills for students by using an image at one time with speaking. In some other cases, like medical technology conference, slide is also welcome. Therefore combination both of them is a better means for transmission of information.  [150]

Overall, both image and language have advantages as well as disadvantages in the use for communication. In modern society, following the development of media the cooperation of both is used frequently.  [30]
