TOPIC: ISSUE40 - "Scholars and researchers should not be concerned with whether their work makes a contribution to the larger society. It is more important that they pursue their individual interests, however unusual or idiosyncratic those interests may seem."

   Whether should the contribution of their works be the most important thing scholars and researchers concerned about or the interests?I partly agree with what the author asserts that it is more important that they pursue their individual interests.But such kind of interests should not be unlimited.
   
    Interest is the origin of any research work of any scholar or researcher in any field.Any progress in the history must be the result of one or a group of persons' hard work who were greated interested in this field.As is known,the process of research is dull and laborious,including endless research manipulation ,dealing with large amount of boring data and so on.Without interest and passion inside,it is hard to imagine any one can finish this long journey full of disappointment and frustration.In addition,as resource of inspiration,interest promotes those researchers to concerntrate on their works and exhibite their talents completely so as to advance the development of the science and moreover the whole society.

    Whether their work will make a contribution to the larger society should not be in the researchers' concerntration.In my opinion, on the premise of not violating nature basic principles,any research will more or less make some contrbutions.Most researches are about the exploration of unknown frontiers of the world,so it is hard to evaluate their contribution.Actually,most discoveries are born by accidents,just like the discoveries of peniccilin and X-rays.In examples,both discovers did not aim to find what they found but the accidents in research made them do so and bring them big surprise.So, to any research,the researcher should not concern about the contribution but strive to do their work best with their interest.

    Though as mentioned above interest is so important for researchers,it does not mean that any kind of interest can be tolerated.During second world war,Japanese used to built a research institution in my country,in which many brutal researches were implemented using alive human beings as the samples to test efficacy of toxic and reponses of human bodies.This kind of interest is unsual and idiosyncratic,but violates humanity,surely should not be allowed.Additonally,some kind of interst that violate ethics should not be admitted,such as human clone.

    In sum,interest is the motive of scholars and researchers who can concerntrate on their works.Except the field of academy,I think persons in other fields also should find their intrests to their works.Without interest,any fun will become bald for you;with intrest,boring works will seem pleasant.If anyone can find interests in their jobs,our society will not only develope more fast but become more harmonious.
