As we know, people’s appearance and behavior are the indicators of their attitudes and interests. Further, we will find out that they are a sign of the society. People’s wearing reveals social custom and their action indicate the view of the community.

On the one hand, people’s appearance, including their look and dress, reveal the ideas and values of the society. We can distinguish people in different regions with different cultural tradition from their costume. Like in Arabian Peninsula, majority of Arab women should wear in black and block their face with black kerchief. This custom indicates that women in Arab society have a compared lower social status and considered as the appendix of their husband. Contrary to this, in European Countries, as France, people often dress as their own pleasure. Comfort and leisure are the purpose of their clothes. Moreover, great change in people’s costume embodies the change in their society. The typical example is China, before the reform and opening to world, Chinese wear similarly in green and gray color clothes. People’s personalities were suppressed by the social environment. After 1980s, especially coming into the 1990s, the costume of Chinese have a great change, they keep the step with the latest trend in fashion. Through observing the different phenomenon of Chinese society, we can find out that China begin to concern the personal interests.

On the other hand, people’s behavior, including their actions and various social movements, also indicate the social values and ideas. For example, Samba embodies the enthusiasm of people in South American countries, like Brazil. In the romantic capital, Paris, we usually see the lovers kissing in subway station, in avenue, in telephone booth and any places they like, which indicate the romantic temperament of French. Moreover, social movement, which is a collective behavior, is a strong reaction of community’s thought. For instance, hippies, who wear strange clothes with long hair, oppose and reject many of the conventional standards and customs of society, even challenge the ethic. Their behaviors represent a restless era.

Nevertheless, with the development of economic globalization, the difference of people’s wearing and living habits have been smaller. For example, People in different countries with various culture backgrounds eat the Western-style fast food, hamburgers and fried chicken. There are many famous fast food chains, like KFC and McDonald’s. Moreover, in formal occasions like business negotiations, or in the corporation offices, people were usually dressed in suit, whether in America or in Japan. Due to the impact of economic globalization, we can not easily distinguish people who have different culture and values through their appearance in modern society.

People’s behaviors and appearance actually reflect their attitude and interests. We can distinguish people with various culture backgrounds through these. However, to some extent, economic globalization makes this difference smaller.
