“how children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.”


提纲：
1 孩子的社会化是影响社会命运的一个重要因素。 社会化不仅指有很强的社会生存能力，（掌握能够用于造福社会的知识文化 技能 ，和社会交流能力） 还指有很强的为社会服务的责任感 。
2 孩子的社会化不是唯一因素，成年人的社会化也不可忽视。 成年人的社会化影响孩子的社会化，成年人目前在社会担当要职。
3 目前，教育的确存在一些问题。 过多的注意书本知识的学习，忽视了实践技能的培养；注重对个人能力的培养，忽视对社会责任感的教育。





I agree with the speaker insofar as that how children are socialized today is one of a myriad of factors determining the destiny of society. Moreover, in my viewpoint, the modern society indeed has some insufficiency in raising children who can help bring about a better society.

Admittedly, the socialization of the children is an important factor influencing the destiny of society.  There are two reasons to support it .In the first place, Children would be the main labor force in the future society ,and would become the future engineers, doctors, teachers, workers, scientists and so on. If they were not equipped with abundant knowledge ,technologies, social abilities, they should never be competent for the future jobs, never mention to make distinguishing contribution to the society. In addition, their thought and ideas formulated by today educators tend to put far-researching influence to the future society. Today children would be the political or economical leaders of the future community .Their thoughts and action would change the social direction .If they are educated to have strong social and ethic responsibility now, they would be more likely to consider other social members’ benefit not themselves in making important decision. Enlai Zhou, the former premier of China, is a good example. When he has a child, he has this belief: studying for the prosperity of nation. It is this belief that urge him to contribute his all life to the emancipation of Chinese.

However, the socialization of the children is not the only factor determining the society’s destiny. We should not neglect the effects of adults . On the one hand, the adults’ actions, words, thoughts put significant influence to children. Every student always grows up with simulating adults around them. As a proverb says” example is better than percept” .therefore, in order to develop children’s social ability ,shape their value, adults should first reflect on themselves and improve themselves. On the other hand, adults are the main products and consumers of the property of society. They are taking important role in kinds of fields. Their actions can lead to direct consequence to the contemporary society and the future destiny of society. For example, the breakthrough they made today in medicine would induce the future society to be apart from some diseases, such as SARS. On the contrary, if the current political leaders made an error decision ,such as war,  it would bring negative influence to the development of society and change the destiny of the society. In short, it is generations’ efforts that influence the destiny of the society. While we pay our attention to educate our children, we should concern adults.

When it comes to the statement of whether we have learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society. According to my observation, in China, there are indeed some problems in educating children. Firstly, while the education system of China emphasizes the importance of mastering knowledge presented in textbook, it neglects to develop the children’s practical ability. In order to gain a high score in test, most children only concentrate on books but be blind to the knowledge out of books. This cause some students to be lack of the basic social knowledge and intercommunicating ability . In addition, most educators ignore training children’ s social responsibility. This make some students only concern themselves, rather than the society as a whole. In short, without strong social responsibility ,today children would not be able to assume important task in the future society.

In sum, the both children today and adults today pose significant influence on the destiny of the society, and the current education system have several deficiencies in educating the children.
