Undoubtedly, as the statement asserted it is the artist gives society something of lasting value. However, the statement, which intends that the critic has no bearing with the artist's works, is real or imagined is shown in the following examples of a large number of famous artists and their stories.
:)
There is no denying the fact that it is the artist provides society something of lasting value. What kinds of works of art have lasting value? In the fields of painting and music, lasting-value works, which convey the thoughts and spirits of the artists’ understanding of society, life and emotion, are results of the artists' passion and creative impulsion. No matter how many years past the value of this kind of works will be lasting. For example, Beethoven, the world famous musician, as we all know that he began to lose his hearing in 1790's and was completely deaf by 1821, due to his passion to music and highly creative impulsion, in spite of his hearing impairment, his best-known works such as Appassionato and Erotica, were composed during this period. Mona, Lisa, Leonardo da Vinci's world famous portrait, reflects the artist's understandings about beauty and life.

In the field of literature, lasting-value works, more often than not, show the characters and spirits of the time of the artist lived, or instruct and teach people the meanings of life. For instance, The Scarlet Letter, which is regarded as one of the most classic American works of literature, provides a window for us to know the intolerant Puritan community of American society in the mid-seventeenth century. Hawthorne, the author of it, criticized the intolerant society which let the people in that time had to realize their fulfillment outside the accepted social boundaries by the works. Another telling example is the novel of Shakespeare. Hamlet, which is one of Shakespeare's most excellent works, teaches us the conspirator will fail at the very end and the evil ambition is harmful. 例子充分

Meanwhile, it is the critic that brings the public's attention to the great works and help people to understand them completely and perfectly. Not all the works have value. Unfortunately, not every one can tell the excellent form the crowded, let alone which is a lasting-value work. In this case, the discovery of the beauty is significant. The critics play a transmitting role that helps people to know and appreciate the value of the works. For instance, Vincent van Gogh, the world famous postimpressionist painter, his paintings are full of passion and represent the people's true feelings, yet, throughout his live, his works were not socially acceptable until decades after his death some critics found and pointed the value of them. 恰当
:)
In short, the statement that the artist presents society different works of lasting value is right as discussed above. Yet, the speaker neglects the role of the critic played. In this aspect, I cannot agree with the speaker. Common sense and history inform me that the critic is helpful for people in finding and understanding the value of works, thus, they help the artists as well.
很好,论证充分,例子也不错
