1.such no mainstream areas, if grow out of innocuous entertainment, will preventpeople from actively struggling against fate, or making effort for better future.
2. when supernatural stories are twisted with realistical phenomena, peoplewill feel confused and unable to discriminate between them
3. such no mainstream areas should be avoid from being the spiritual power forpeople, but they can work as entertainments to satisfy human needs.

It is said that astrology and fortune-telling websites get highest click rate among all kinds of internet resources. Psychic and paranormal books also never fail to top the best-salelists of bookstores. Working as entertainments, these nonmainstream areas do satisfy the public of their needs, which cannot be slaked by mainstreamscience. Yet they have reached the boundary, and should not be granted any more importance. Otherwise they were likely to do harm to the society, or even to usurp the throne of mainstream science.

Few changes seem to have happened within the functionality of fortune-telling and astrology since they came into being long ago. Today, some people still turn to these supernatural methods for decisions like ancient tribe members did. Nothing serious if these decisions are concerned with trifles like choosing clothes, however, if people turn to fortune-tellers for instruction when making decision on job, marriage and other important issues, these innocuous entertainment has rotten away. When being told a good fortune is ahead, people will lose drive for personal struggle for better future and passively wait for the good luck to hit. While doom is revealed by fortune-tellers, people will be frustrated and tend to give up effort since, as they are told, they can do nothing to prevent the bad luck from happening.Excessively depending on those nonmainstream areas of inquiry will abrade the will power of people to improve themselves and to struggle for a bright future.

Psychic and paranormal pursuits, if not expressly labeled as “ultra natural” or “unproved”, will also do harm to the contemporary objective science system. With the prosperity of media,information is easily carried to every corner of the world. In face of such a mass of information, people can hardly tell realistic ones from illusory ones,especially when it comes to children, who have weaker ability of discrimination.If some fabricated or imaginary stories from psychic and paranormal pursuits are accepted by people as realities, they will easily get confused or cheated.They may refer to these questionable stories as solid proofs in their scientific pursuits and consequently, the objectivity and reliability of these pursuits are inevitably violated.

Anyway, these nonmainstream areas of inquiry also make up human culture. In their thousands of years’ history, they were closely linked with literature, art and many other important features. A lot of poets strike inspiration on astrology and paranormal pursuits, so do artists and architects. Even scientists sometimes are enlightened by some marvelous thoughts borrowed from these fields. And most of the time, such supernatural inquiry provides people an interesting and innocuous means of making fun. Reading psychic and paranormal books also nourishes individuals’imagination. As long as people understand they are nothing more than amusements, they can make life not so dull to live.

Doubtlessly all these nonmainstream pursuits will keep alive as long as varieties of human-beings exist. Yet they can never replace mainstream science, which are the substantial drive of the society to go on.
