Iseducation meeting every student’s needsand interests truly effective, as the speaker asserts? As far as I am concerned ,proper satisfaction of student’s wants is in favor of education. However,However, it is impossible and harmful to specifically be designed to cater forthe individual’s needs and interests of each students.
Admittedly, student would study interesting lesson well. As a great scientistonce said "Great interest is the best teacher". As a general rule, people will be more easily to concentrate all of their energy on an interestingthing which greatly contributes to assimilation and digestion of mass of newknowledge and information. Consider, for instance, many famous scientists suchas Newton and Edison, who had made great contribution to human society in spiteof their terrible grade during their early childhood .Thank goodness, they still had interests in some scientificfields, otherwise, it is impossible for us to enjoy ourselvesfrom a large number of science and technology. Deep down, the education’sefficiency will be enhanced strikingly when it meets certain genius‘s needs and interests as possibleas he can.
However, what is meaningless and unrealistic is that catering to student‘s every needs and interests .Firstly, a university hasno ability to provide enough sources to satisfy each one. For example, teachercan not understand each member's idea and make relevant plan of education foreach of them for his limited energy, even if he may make friends with hisstudents and they are willing to tell him what they like and dislike. What ismore, even though a university’s managerhas known a lots lot of students' interests and needs, many objective factorssuch as lacking of financial support and limited by geographic circumstances remainmajor problems .This is very common in some poor countries or regions wherestudents who care for physic and chemistry can't gain enough materials for theirexperiments .The same is true of those students who are interested in kinds ofmarine lives but lived in a desert country. At the even worse some students’ideas are immature or even dangerous. Were they received enough education fittingtheir interests, the student s would be most likely to grow into anineffectual, perhaps seven an anti-social, adult.
Moreover, the most important duty of education is training students for their futurecareers. Over placing emphasis on an individual's needs and interests apparentlyhampers this essential object aim. Though for satisfying those students, ouruniversity prepares them of some liberal arts included literature, history, music and so forth, they distinguished from prevocational or preprofessionalstudies used to refer to unspecialized and nonscientific. Prevocational orpreprofessional courses which include subjects as health sciences, engineering, computer programming and architecture constitute an increasing majority ofhigher education programs worldwide. In the USA fewer less than a third of allcollege students graduate with bachelor's degrees in liberal arts subjects. Thedevelopment of new technologies and the globalization of the world economy havecreated high demands for workers with computer, communication, and otheroccupational skills that can be acquired at colleges or universities. Forexample, computer has reduced many jobs only require low-skilled in a varietyof fields, however it also has created new opportunities for those whohave the proper training .To be sure, the university should provide morelessons about prevocational and paraprofessional to increase graduates' ratioof employment.
In sum, while a lesson specifically designed for student is beneficial for himto develop his potential and go to success. We should not lose sight of the fact thatattempting to satisfy every needs is futile ,or even risky when those needs andinterests are illegal. Besides, to make education truly effective, theuniversity should try his best to develop prevocational and paraprofessionalcourses rather than pay close attention to meet students' needs and interests.
