51"Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."178

1/29/2007 9:34 AM-1/29/2007 11:22 AM

According to the title statement, education should be specially designed to meet individual needs and interests, only through which can education be truly effective. While I insist education should properly meet the individual needs and interests and offer students a right direction in order to develop an integrated and well-rounded knowledge system.

Education should properly meet the individual needs and interests of each student on the ground of the necessity to fully develop their talents. As an old saying goes, interest is the best teacher, education is obligated to guide their students to the directions where their interests are. Interests add to their impetus of studying and researching and can increase their possibility to discover novel explorations, which will promote the progress of the whole society. Numerous scientists and researchers succeeded in the virtue of doing researches of the subjects they were interested in. Take Einstein for example, Einstein’s real love was the theories of physical field and he dedicated himself to the study of physical theories for more than fifty years of his life. With an unremitting faith of physics and a persistent impetus of discovering, he was not attracted by fame or fortune nor swayed by the opinions of the majority. He knew his talent and guarded it jealously against outside interference. Physics was his life, and he lived it according to his own lights, with complete objectivity and integrity. Finally, he discovered the theory of relativity, which will be forever indebted by people since it removed the obstacles to the outlook which were involved in the primitive notions of absolute space and time.

However, to adequately meet every student’s interest is not practical, and not even reasonable because of the limited resources of educational fields. Currently, no nations can guarantee every individual to get advanced education, let alone meet every individual’s needs and interests. If there was a government who could afford such a huge project, they would spend the money for more individuals’ opportunities to get in colleges, rather than offer the students these luxuries. Besides, it is a waste of resources just to meet every individual’s needs, ignoring the supply and demand of the society. If the students were entitled to choose classes whatever they liked without any restraint, the society would witness the chaos that a huge imbalance between supply and demand.

Education should guide students, in order to develop an integrated and well-rounded knowledge system of students, to gain knowledge of various realms. Many foundational subjects, arduous but indispensable, will be filtered by students when they are free to choose. It is not necessarily because students do not take full responsibilities for themselves, but they have no ideas what those rigid subjects will benefit them in the future. Not every individual has a vision far enough to layout a rational system of knowledge, which means the guidance and restraint of schools are essential for the further development of individuals. For example, hardly anyone would like to study mathematics voluntarily, which, however, is the foundation of almost every subject, and is even more important for the development of individuals’ scientific values and objective ideas. Also, no one would choose ethics or morality because they believe they are too virtuous to sit in class studying morality. However, the increasing scientific crimes indicate the necessity of the compulsory education of morality.

Actually, offering students correct directions does not conflict with the purpose of developing individuals’ interests and talents. The preoccupation of education is designing an optimal frame as a direction to construct rational knowledge systems for students, with more space for their own to choose what they like and develop their own interests, avoiding sacrificing their interests and talents. Only through this way can students be fully educated and adequately develop their potentials, which contributes to more creativity, individuality, and explorations.

He knew his talent and guarded it jealously against outside interference. Physics was his life, and he lived it according to his own lights,这句没看懂 with complete objectivity and integrity. Finally, he discovered the theory of relativity发现理论?一般不这么用吧, which will be forever indebted by people since it removed the obstacles to the outlook which were involved in the primitive notions of absolute space and time.

However, to adequately meet every student’s interest is not practical, and not even reasonable because of the limited resources of educational fields. Currently, no nations应该用单数吧 can guarantee every individual to get advanced education, let alone meet every individual’s needs and interests. If there was a government who could afford such a huge project, they would spend the money for more individuals’ opportunities to get in colleges, rather than offer the students these luxuries. Besides, it is a waste of resources just to meet every individual’s needs, ignoring the supply and demandof the society. If the students were entitled to choose classes whatever they liked without any restraint, the society would witness the chaos that a huge imbalance between supply and demand.

第二段"education is obligated to guide their students to the directions where their interests are. "换成education is obligated to guide their students to the directions in which their interests are going会不会更好些?

1.你说把 第二段he was not attracted by fame or fortune nor swayed by the opinions of the majority. 改为
he was neither attracted by fame or fortune nor swayed by the opinions of the majority.

2.
第二段Numerous scientists and researchers succeeded in the virtue of doing researches of the subjects they were interested in. 改为
Numerous scientists and researchers succeeded by virtue of researching subjects they were interested in.

是我的错,其实 in virtue of , by virtue of都对,但我写的就错了,谢谢啊~~

3.
第二段"education is obligated to guide their students to the directions where their interests are. "换成education is obligated to guide their students to the directions in which their interests are going会不会更好些?
