While the speaker asserts that looking back for an understanding of the past provides little guidance for living now because so much is new and complex, in my viewpoint, although many things today are different from past, studying history still exerts great influence to living in the present.

Admittedly, with the rapidly development of society, some new things appear and we cannot know anything from history. Take computer for example, at the present time, computer was used so widely that almost everyone must learn how to use it. Nevertheless, we almost get any valuable information from history about how to use it. In addition,  
In short, history has no ability to teach anything to us.
However, learning history indeed brings positive influence to both individual and the society as a whole. On the one hand, as for individual, the great human achievements of the past inspire and encourage one to go ahead. By learning the process of the development of communication – from the ancient simple communication ways which mostly depend on beacon to nowadays the computer network and mobile telephone, one student might be amazed to these accomplishment thereby deciding to devoted himself/herself to impel the advancement of communication cause. In addition, history is replete with large number of famous people –political leaders, great inventors, distinguished scientists, excellent writers. Their characters and moral provide perfect model which people in nowadays try to imitate. Take my experience for example , when I was a child, Edison’s story that he invented the bulb after he suffered thousands of experimental failure was so impressive that I intended to become a man like Edison. Since then, when I encounter any difficulty, Edison’s story always bring to my mind and cause me to persist in. In short, learning history exert positive influence to every one’s life.

On the other hand, the experience and mistakes of past also provide valuable information to the evolution of various of fields. In business fields, by learning the successful example in history, the business leaders learned how to manage their companies and employees and how to expand their market effectively. For instance, Ford’s was applied by a majority of companies today adopt Ford’s   which greatly promote the efficiency of production. The founder of Panasonic ever said that his Panasonic can grow to a famous international company form a small factory greatly contributes to the book –“The art of War” -which was wrote by an ancient Chinese militarist Wu Sun. This book teaches him how to manage company and face business competition. From this example, we can see that history play a vital role in guiding today’s business activities.  In political field, countless historical events also provide experience or lesson to modern political leaders. Hitler’s failure tells political leaders that autarchy necessarily destroys the benefits of demos and ultimately loses the mass’s support. Ze dong mao ‘s success in establishing the democratic country –China, tells leaderships that a successful leadership must consider anything on the basis of demos. Besides, modern people also gain valuable information from history in academic area, in artistic area, and so on.

In sum, from what has been discussed above, we may safely draw a conclusion that studying history contributes to the development of both individual and society, notwithstanding the society changed itself so rapidly.
