Issue 36  The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries. 一个人是否伟大只能是由后人评定,而非他同时代的人



As an old saying goes the greatness of a hero is defined by the history, and the history itself is the giant’s history. Apparently, the comment above is emphasizing the importance of the relationship between the greatness of one person and the time he or she lived. Therefore, when it comes to the problem of how to decide a individual’s greatness, any conclusion made separated from the aspect of time is not convincing enough. In my view, after taking the time element in to account, I think the greatness if individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.
What is the meaning of greatness? Different people can define it from different aspects, or consider it according to diverse situation. However the basic meaning of greatness can always express as an appraisive comment toward a particular person’s action during his or her time. The course of how to decide whether a individual is great or not involve a series of complex standards. Further more most of these standards is associated with the extension of the time.
Firstly, if we want to decide whether on person is fit to meet the standard of greatness, the process of comparison is necessary. During this period of time, we should take many aspects into account, not only the action of him in his time but the history ahead his as well. In order to collect enough and correct information, it demands a continuous and overall image connect with every different period of history. As a result, only the people who live after him can have the most objective and adequate material. So considering the circumstance and history element, it is very becoming to judge the greatness of individuals by those who live after him.
Secondly, as we all kwon, many persons who is considered as great in the history is because of their outstanding contribution to the people and the world. This outstanding contribution of them may not be realized or approbated during the contemporaneous time, just for the reason that commonalty didn’t have the insight focusing on the action they did or the effect of this action cannot appear that quickly. In other word, their actions is some kind of attempt or test, no one can absolutely define it as a great contribution to the world or the human. Time can prove everything. When the time is proper to develop the original thought; when the executor has accumulate adequate experience to carry the plan to the practice, then we will recognize the great effect made by the giant before.
Finally, the judgment toward a people from his contemporaries can more or less be effected by the special thought of that time. As time goes by, at different stage of an age, the main ideologies are diverse. It is the face that it is impossible to avoid the predominant thinking to add unilateral evaluation to the judgement of a people. In order to ensure the  objectivity, the greatness of individual is better to be decided be by those who live after him.
In conclusion, how to decide the greatness of one person is helpful to realize the most valuable thought and action of a giant in the history. Considering the there key points, comparison, effect and objectivity, one’s greatness should only to be decided by those live after him but his contemporaries.

Lz看来比较追求思想性，不过一边倒的写法容易偏颇，但是能够自圆其说应该也够了
