ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
WORDS: 567 DATE: 2007-2-4
The speaker asserts that only education, specially designed to address the individual needs and interests of each students is truly effective. I agree with this attitude when it comes to education in primary schools, middle schools, and high schools. To education in colleges and universities, however, I strongly disagree with it. Furthermore, these kinds of education are hard to put into practice for society.
In primary schools, middle schools, and high schools, education is truly effective only when it is specially designed to satisfy the individual needs and interests of each student. On the one hand, it is generally recognized that students attending primary schools, middle schools, and high schools are very young, and even do not know what they interest in and what they need to subsist in the future. Therefore, it's teachers' responsibility to make sure every students gain knowledge they need in the future and keep them in the right way. For instance, when you are a boy " what's your interest? " He may say that " playing " Of course, this is not the boy's truly interest and the function of school education is not to teach students playing. And teachers must lead him to learning so that he can find his truly interest. On the other hand, the aim of education is not only teaching students knowledge but also full develop them overally. Studies by socialists suggest that person with overall-development are likely to do more contributions than person without overall-development. Take computer crimes for example. Computer hackers, who intrude into other persons' computers system with illegal motive, are all high education person with rich knowledge in computer science, yet they are un-overrall develop person lacking the responsibility for society. If education can provide students with overall development, this may be able to be prevented.
In colleges and universities, however, education must try their best to meet individual needs and interests of each student. Students after education before colleges have already know what's their interest and what's they need and have comprehensive knowledge. Therefore, it's time to develop individual. First, it's universally known that interesting is the best teacher. Students with interest in certain academic areas are more likely spending considerable time on this and leaning more effectively. Besides, education requiring students study what they are not interest in do nothing good but harm individual develop and waste times. Secondly, in this era of rapid social and technological change, a great deal knowledge are produced daily. It's impossible for students to learn all of them. Moreover, there are much knowledge which are useless in our daily lives and work in the future. For instance, ordering students whose major and interest are biology learn principle physics. It's just a way to waste time.
Finally, when comes to the carry out education specially designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each students, it's hard to achieve. Since there are not enough teachers, curriculums, education resources to meet everyone's needs. Moreover, meeting needs and interest of every students may result in chaos. Every people have various needs and interests, and it's hard to order and manage for educator.
To sum up, education in schools before colleges must pay more emphasis on overall development of students rather than address their needs and interest. Moreover, education in colleges and universities must try their best, though extremely hard to achieve, to meet students' interest and needs. |
