Issue70 “In any profession-business politics, education, government-those in power should step down after five years. The surest path to success for any enterprise is revitalization through new leadership.”

提纲:
1 on one hand, the possibility of long-term leadership brings adversely effects to the enterprise.  /Abuse success, lack of creatively, decrease of enthusiasm. /
2 On the other hand, periodic replacing of leadership brings energy to the enterprise. / maximize the profits of enterprise ,provide a chance for discovering
3 However, how long time is proper for the enterprise to renew the leadership should be determined by case-by case analysis.  As far as I concerned, in some cases, the period should be longer than five years, especially in the education, medicine in which the experience and the deposition of knowledge are more important for a successful leadership.
  In other cases, such as business, politics, government, the period of renewing leaderships should be shorter than five years.

It is much controversial to determine whether those in power should step down after five years the surest way to success for any enterprise is revitalization through new leadership. The speaker asserts so, and I fundamentally agree with the speaker’s assertion, but as for the period of renewing leadership, I think it should be determined by a case-in-case analysis.
First of all, I agree that these in power should step down after certain years for two reasons. On the one hand, the possibility of long-term leadership brings adversely effects to the enterprise. As the age increases, the vigor of any individual decreases and the ability of innovation and creation decline gradually. Certain professions which call for vigorous employees and employees of creativity and innovation ability are not fit for the seniors, therefore in order not to decrease the profit of the company and the interest of certain group the seniors should step down their positions. Further, long-term leadership makes the leadership has sufficient time and power to abuse success, especially in political field. The longer certain officials are in power, the more likely that there will be corruption and extreme authorities. Recently, several officials’ corruption was reported in China and these leaders usually hold on their position for a long time. From this, we can conclude that a long time in power is highly likely to result in extreme authorities which are harmful to the development and reform of society.  
On the other hand, periodic replacing of leadership brings energy to the enterprise. As we all know, there is no flawless individual in this word. While one is clear at some aspects, one might lack abilities in other aspects. Therefore, periodic change of leader would maximize profits of the enterprise. For example, one who is good at managing company and employees would make the operation of the company be well-regulated during his leadership time. At the same time, another one who has a strong ability of expanding market would cause the sales of their products increase greatly during his time. After going through these two leaders, I believe this company not only has good running order but also has wide market. In addition, period change of leader provides a good chance for the development of young employees. When one knows that the leadership position is always open to him/her, he/she would be greatly inspired to work hard for competing the leader position. On the contrary, When leaders can hold their positions for a long time, other employees would be discouraged because they know whatever how excellent they are, they still have no chance to be promoted. In all, in order to make sure the young employees can get experience and opportunities of being promoted as soon as possible, those seniors in power should step down.

However, how long time is proper for the enterprise to renew the leadership should be determined by case-in-case analysis.  As far as I concerned, in some cases, the period should be longer than five years, especially in the education, medicine in which the experience and the deposition of knowledge are more important for a successful leadership. In these areas, if the leaders have no enough experience, they would be hard to guild and manage their employees. In other cases, such as business, politics, government, the period of renewing leaderships should be shorter than five years, because a successful leader in these areas need a strong innovation and energy. Being a leader for a long time would lead the leader to lack enthusiasm.
In sum, from what has been discussed above, we can safely make a conclusion that any leadership should step down after a certain years, as for how long the period is, we are hard to have a unified answer and should determined by the cases.
