What quality is the most essential for an effective leader? The speaker asserts that it is the ability to remain consistently committed to particular principle and objectives. In my opinion, on one hand, the leader should adhere to some principle and objectives, on the other hand, the leader also think much of popular opinion.

First of all, an effective leader should persist in corrective principle and objectives. As far as I concerned, an effective leader should be the one who can make a firm decision about how to deal with these problems which the enterprise encounters. Only the leader has one sure plan and put it to employees, employees just know what should be done. Otherwise, employees would be exhausted in changing their plan and actions according to the leader’s variable orders. In addition, an effective leader also should insist on these principles which conform to the benefits of a majority of employees. Common sense tells us that any principle or objective always be benefit to some people and be harmful to other people. As Protecting most people’s benefits is an important duty for the leader, a leader should persevere with his/her principle which can bring positive effects to most of employees. For instance, when a company discusses whether establishing a new factory in a remote area, some employees may think it would bring inconvenience to them given that they have to drive a long way to work. But this plan would bring greatly profits for the company which would ultimately benefit most of employees. In this case, what the leader should do. Apparently , he/she should insist on establishing the new factory.
At the same time, an effective leader also should widely hear suggestions and opinion from his/her underlings. As an old saying goes: hear all parties. Hearing extensive advices and suggestion contributes to the leader’s wise decision. Because a leader can not know anything about his/her group, others suggestion provide valuable information for the leader to make accurate decision. Recalling the history, we would find that one leader who be bind to others opinion inevitably become a loser, on the contrary, one leader who be open to others opinion necessarily get strong support from ordinary people and become a successful leader. Hitler’s example aptly substantiates this point. When Hitler was chancellor of the Third Reich, His pursuit of aggressive nationalist policies was ever opposed by most of his underlings, but Hitler still was stick to his principle and ultimately suffered from failure and became an infamous leader in history. On the contrary, the success of Zedong MAO greatly contributes to his favor of hearing others opinion. As he ever said in his works (and I paraphrase): for the suggestion of the mass, what ever it is right or wrong, a leader should hear, because I believe there always are  some accurate component involved in it.

From what has been discussed above, we may safely make a conclusion that an effective leader should be open to others’ suggestion, but an leader should not easily shift his/her own decision but make the decision after carefully analysis
