The speaker asserts that the genuine and lasting value of art is given by the artist, not the critic. I strongly agree with the speaker. As a complementary matter of art, I concede that sometimes critique will be helpful, However, It is the unique feat and enduring spirit of artist gives society the lasting value, not the subjective critique.
  
  To bigin with, it is the artist that endows the art with the profound value. Artist are necessary to give birth to a myriad of art works which make the world colorful and vivid.Though what presents to the public is the work of art itself surfacely, the inherent value hiding in the art work is what the public want to perceive.According to what Leo Tolstoy said art, is not a handicraft, it is the transmission of feeling the artist has experienced. Via the works of art, artists express their thoughts, emotion, or desires of the mundane world. It is the indirect and abstract meaning from the art work that converts to the lasting value of our society. Any value needs a necessary carrier and the value of art attaches to the art work. Without the art work created by the the artist, it is ridiculous for us to refer to the concept of value.

   Secondly, the critique of any an art work cannot become a standard which determines whether it is good or not.In the first place, the critic often have incline to a particular type of art.Thus, critic is so subjective that he may lose the rational analysis. Besides, usually the critics with different backgrounds will hold the different views on a same art work. Thus it is more likely that the public may be confused by the varied critiques when they want to choose their favor ones from the Sargasso Sea of novels, films, music and paintings. In the second place, some full-time critics, such as newspaper reporter, who are lack of special knowledge in the realm of art, cannot be trusted absolutedly. Their incorrect critiques will not only do harm to the artist, but also lead the public to believe in an improper aesthetic evaluation. In the third place, some greatness of art work cannot be decided by their contemporaries.History is replete with many paradigmatic illustrations to substantiate this point. Van Gogh, deemed as one of the greatest gift artists in the world, was not accepted by the contemporaries of his era, and only sold out four pieces of his works under the help of his brother-a businessman.
  
  Finally, a constructive criticism may be helpful for people to distinguish the work whether to pay our attention and time.Further, more and more films and novels are flood with eroticism and violence  that become a threat against our society's moral criterion.However the active critique could arouse the society's attention so that we can take some actions to keep from the villainy.
  
  In sum,  more often than not, critics are not reliable since it is less likely to ask critic be without biases. However, it is the artist that provides the society something of the lasting value.
