In the above argument, the arguer intends to convince us that the dentists who advertise to attract patients should target the male consumers and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients. To support the argument, the arguer cites the statistics from dentists to indicate that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. However, as it stands, the argument is hardly convincing due to the following critical fallacies.

The major weak point of the argument is that the arguer cites a false survey to substantiate the reasoning of the argument. In the survey, the arguer fails to offer any information about the number of the subjects investigated and whether there is a procedure of random sampling, therefore we have good reason to doubt that the number of the subjects is small, rendering the statistics from the survey are in lack of representation of the actual attitude of the patients. Moreover, the arguer fails to offer us the exact number of men and women in the survey. Hence, it is totally possible that the number of men investigated is much larger than the number of women investigated, rendering the argument further lack of credibility.

The second fallacy undermining the argument is that the arguer commits a fallacy of false causality. Even if we assume that the number of men who faint is larger than the number of the women who faint, the arguer fails to offer evidence to establish the causality between the assumption and the conclusion that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. Perhaps, the dental work performed on the men causes more pain. Without offering explicit information about the dental work, we have good reason to doubt that it is the difference between the dental work of the women and the men leads to the difference in the number of person who faint.

The last but not least fallacy of the argument is that the arguer commits a hasty generalization in concluding that the dentists should target the male consumers. The arguer fails to offer the exact number of the women patients and the men patients, therefore the suggestion in the argument may result in the decline of the number of customers due to the decline of the number of the female patients. Further, other steps such as low price may attract more customers.

To sum up, the argument is hardly convincing due to the above fallacies. To make the argument more acceptable, the arguer should offer more information about the survey and make a fuller consideration before concluding.

[为什么给男人带来的痛苦更多呢?是不是应该解释一下]Without offering explicit information about the dental work, we have [a]good reason to doubt that it is the difference between the dental work of the women and the men [that]leads to the difference in the number of person who faint.
