The discussion of the high controversial issue about the contribution made by artist and the critic for the lasting value has become vogue not only in the United States but also in other countries during the last decade. It is tempting to support the speaker's claim that only the artist gives society something of lasting value. But the further reflection tells me that both artist and critic are critical for our society as a whole surviving and bloom.

On one hand, artist defined as the imitation of something vividly has make contribution to give us lasting value and provide pleasure and passion of life. Painters like Van Gogh, who creates impressionism on painting, poets as Homer, who is famous for his great book Iliad and Odyssey, musicians such as Beethoven whose music brought about a revolution from traditional to romantic use the art express their private passions and insight of the universe. All of these great works give not only contemporary people but also the man nowadays and in the future encouragement, wisdom, passion of lives.

On the other hand, the critics can also provide lasting value for the society and they are the crucial people for our society improvement. If anyone cannot argue seriously that the man who pursue victory by fault and swindling is as great as the man honestly and hard work? If anyone cannot argue that the Marvel Comic books are as valuable as Macbeth? Unless we admit that nothing will be more significant than anything else or that all the materials are equally critical, we must seek for the intellectual standard of life and realize the significant of critic. If no critic exists, we will be bogged down in the Sargasso Sea of lives and the whole world will become a anthill.

In actually, if we view this issue from different perspective, we will find that artist sometimes may turn to a critic. A Renaissance of painting of Madonna and Child, for many views, is the transcend spirituality. Beethoven's symphony is the last word of endurance. Shakespeare's Macbeth tells us that the ordinary ambition may take pernicious to the society. These artists stand against the certain society which they considered unjust and they have become critic actually. And what’s more, the criticism about A Tale of the Stone which counts the greatest novel in China has over 2000000 words. The great novel and the criticism have combined into integrated great work. So, artist and critic can compliment each other to give the society important lasting value.

All in all, it is likely that not all of us can drive to the same conclusion of what I have discussed above. However, it’s true that the critic and artist can make compliment each other if handled properly, though they may undermine other at certain times. We, as individuals and members of society, should realize the significant contribution that artist and critic all important for giving something of lasting value and for our society to improvement.
