TOPIC: ISSUE38 - "In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books."
WORDS: 635

Outline:

The statement claims that in the age of television, reading books seems no more important than it used to be so that people can learn as much as they can by watching TV as reading books, which I strongly disagree. I concede that TV is becoming an integrated part in our daily lives, yet in some field, watching TV could never replace the role of reading books.

In this era of knowledge explosion, more and more events are increasingly emerging everyday. For the purpose of conveying temporal and spatial events to people. TV, which provides a instant and accurate way in which people can have the first touch with the current affairs and frontiers of new technology application, do have its own merits that book can not match. For example, people may be informed the 911 terrorist attack or get to know Dolly the cloned sheep from TV as soon as possible, while it may be so onerous and impractical for the journalists to recount and document all the new events everyday in printed form and disseminate them to readers.

Furthermore, also in reference to the education of natural and science knowledge, people may be inclined to understand and digest knowledge in a more visual way with vivid explanations other than abstract ones. For this aim TV may serve much better than books does. For example, from Nation Geography and Discovery, people will get in touch with the natural world without even stepping out their homes .For example, we can see how tigers chasing for their preys, see the detailed procedure of bee forage from angles one can never imagine in real life. On the contrary, introductions of such knowledge in books, even may be not that boring, will not have the same effect for imparting people as TV do.

Admitted that TV has some advantages in some conditions that book is incomparable, However  a noticeable shortcoming of TV is that it cannot provoke abstract thinking. For example, when you open a masterpiece in literature, like Jane Eyre or Notre Dame De Paris, you not only read the plot care about the fates of main characters, but also communicate with authors in depth through a gate provided by books---you read their minds and thought as well as understand their wisdom and talent contained in the sentences and words. As for television, Even some of the masterpieces can be adapted and made films or series, however, no matter how good comments these plays receives, people just touch with the directors’ thoughts or directors’ understanding of the original authors’ thoughts. So that people could by no accounts learn more through these plays than reading books because them do not have chance to contact the authors’ mind directly, let alone the in depth thinking it arouses.

Another problem that renders TV unable to replace books completely is that TV stations are ultimately some organization that in pursue for the maximized profit. Thus TV will choose to play programs which will most likely to appeal to the majority of audiences in order to boost its viewing rate. So that one may not have chance to see the programs which are too specified to a certain researching realm, which made the disseminated knowledge very limited, whereas by reading books, one can cover all the knowledge he/she may want to know and further develop informed and intelligent opinions.

In sum, though TV is playing a more and more important role in modern society, and do have its advantages to disseminate knowledge over books in some conditions, yet one cannot confidently conclude that reading books is obsolete because is still important for people to become well-round developed. For individuals, one should take advantage of both TV(or other mass media) and reading in order to make learning more effective and efficient.

The statement claims that in the age of television, reading books seems no more important than it used to be so后面的是原因 that people can learn as much as they can by watching TV as reading books, which I strongly disagree. I concede that TV is becoming an integrated part in our daily lives, yet in some field, watching TV could never replace the role of reading books.

In this era of knowledge explosion, more and more events are increasingly这个词了可以不要 emerging everyday. For the purpose of conveying temporal and spatial events to people. 这不是一句话TV, which provides a instant and accurate way in which people can have the first touch with the current affairs and frontiers of new technology application, do have its own merits that book can not match. 这句不错For example, people may be informed the 911 terrorist attack or get to know Dolly the cloned sheep from TV as soon as possible, while it may be so onerous and impractical for the journalists to recount and document all the new events everyday in printed form and disseminate them to readers.很流畅~

Furthermore, also in reference to the education of natural and science knowledge, people may be inclined to understand and digest 这个词好knowledge in a more visual way with vivid explanations other than abstract ones.虽然有点长,但还是不错~ For this aim TV may serve much better than books does. For example, from Nation Geography and Discovery, people will wouldget in touch with the natural world without even stepping out their homes .For example, we can see how tigers chasing for their preys, see the detailed procedure of bee forage from angles one can never imagine in real life. On the contrary, introductions of such knowledge in books, even may be not that boring, will not have the same effect for imparting 一般后面不跟人的,比如imparting knowledgepeople as TV do.

Admitted thatAdmittedly, TV has some advantages in some conditions that book is incomparable, However  a noticeable shortcoming of TV is that it cannot provoke abstract thinking. For example, when you open a masterpiece in literature, like Jane Eyre or Notre Dame De Paris, you not only read the plot 这里应该有个联结词care about the fates of main characters, but also communicate with authors in depth through a gatedoor比较好,貌似 provided by books---you read their minds and thought as well as understand their wisdom and talent contained in the sentences and words. As for television, Even some of the masterpieces can be adapted and made intofilms or series, however, no matter how good comments these plays receives, people just touch with the directors’ thoughts or directors’ understanding of the original authors’ thoughts. So that people could by no accounts learn more through these plays than reading books because them do not have chance to contact the authors’ mind directly, let alone the in depth thinking it arouses.长句还是居多,但是表达还是相当的好啊~

Another problem that renders TV unable to replace books completely is that TV stations are ultimately some organization that in pursue for the maximized profit. Thus TV will choose to play programs which will most likely to appeal to the majority of audiences in order to boost its viewing rate. So that one may not have chance to see the programs which are too specified to a certain researching realm, which made the disseminated knowledge very limited,这里应该另起一句,还有最好具体一点 whereas by reading books, one can cover all the knowledge he/she may want to know and further develop informed and intelligent opinions.这段的后面稍稍缺憾,但是还是不错

In sum, though TV is playing a more and more important role in modern society, and do have its advantages to disseminate knowledge over books in some conditions, yet one cannot confidently conclude that reading books is obsolete because is still important for people to become well-round developed. For individuals, one should take advantage of both TV(or other mass media) and reading in order to make learning more effective and efficient.结尾罗嗦了
总体来说还是很好的文章~结构清晰~语言也相当的好~~
今天天气不错~
