Issue38:"In the age of television, readingbooks is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watchingtelevision as they can by reading books."
As the development of television, someinformation transmitted by television in a more immediately and vivid way.Nevertheless, reading books still plays an irreplaceable and essential role inlearning and people cannot obtain the same effect through television. So, I don’tagree with the author said that people can learn as much as by watchingtelevision as they can by reading book in the age of television due to readingbooks is not as important as it once was.
Admittedly, some information, whether theyare important or no-important, interesting or no-interesting, happened or beinghappened, can be reported to public more quickly and accurately by televisionin the era of television. Weather report, provides situation of weather aroundthe worldwide in the two or three days, really do convenience to populace. Arts programs, which presents information offashion, super stars and the interview about some celebrated person, makepeople feel relax and clam down in such a fast developing society. News broadcast, which report matters about ourcountry or foreign country and the relationship with other countries, providesa area for populace to know what happened or will happened in the world. Inbrief, television do good to people to obtain more communication of every fieldin the worldwide.
However, the importance of reading bookscannot be replaced by television. Firstly, people can get more acknowledge, which television have no capability to supply, through reading books. The basicsubjects, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and relevant subjects, suchas astrology, computer science, genetics, are totally illustrate and descriptclearly and pellucid in the text books; meanwhile, we can hardly get theseacknowledge through TV. Secondly, what we can learn from books is totally differfrom the knowledge obtained through television. Through reading books, we getinformation more specialization and know more details about it. On thecontrast, the information is more general and often only a concept of it. Forinstance, when we are reading a story, we can feel the emotion and the thoughtsof each character strongly and expressly. But, when we are watching the samestory through television, we merely know the mainly content what the story tryto express to us.
Moreover, theunique and significantstatus that books acted nowadays is the same with it once was. Before the ageof television, public, whether adult or child, student or educator, urbanite orcountryside, were getting acknowledge what they thought are indispensably intheir life by reading books. In the era of television, though we can get someinformation through television and Internet, we still willing to learnacknowledge useful to our daily life by reading books. For example, people, especiallyhouse-working women, prefer to learn some skills of cooking by reading books inthe past times. Compared with it, people still prefer to learn cooking skillsby reading book but not by watching TV program.
To sum up, reading books is important topeople to obtain information either before the television times or in the eraof television, although populace can also get some information by watchingtelevision.
