41"Such nonmainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits play a vital role in society by satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science."

In human history, especially in the last two hundred years, science has been the most influential force that greatly changed our way of lives. Yet it becomes increasingly evident to us in recent years that science is not a panacea. There must be something else to solve our problems. In the statement above, the speaker suggests that nonmainstream areas be the supplement of science.

It must be admitted that science alone is not enough in satisfying human needs, especially those involving mind and spirit. The main purpose of current scientific researches is to fulfill our material demands by obtaining as much knowledge of the world and then reconstructing the world with that knowledge acquired. In this aspect, science does well. But it is not so effectual in the mental world. It can not help us from feeling lonely, afraid, or angry. This is why there are a multitude of nonmainstream areas. Advocates of these areas claim that they bring people what mainstream science don't. In other words, these magical techniques are necessary for people as a supplement to science.

However, believing in those magical techniques can be dangerous. The fascinating stories of fortune-tellers and people who can control a teacup with their minds are fun, and are harmless as long as you don't treat it more seriously than a joke. However, it's quite a different thing once you believe in the existence of that kind of magical powers. Unlike science, those mysterious areas are irrational, because they are usually based upon wild imaginations of their creators. Follow their instructions and you may gradually lose your common sense and become an irrational person too. What will you do if a fortune-teller warns you that your life is in great danger because your new neighbor is actually sent by someone who wants to kill you? Will you follow his advice and lay a bomb in his front yard? What if a man promises that he can show you how to drive a car with your mind as soon as you hand out your bank account? If you trust them no matter whatever they say, you are in great trouble.

Fortunately, there are other means we can resort to satisfy our spiritual demands. In fact if you think carefully enough you can find more than adequate approaches to make yourself feel better. For instance, you can turn to nearly all kinds of arts when science just can't help: literature, music, painting, etc. Sports are also a good choice. Some sports are especially effective to soothe the anxieties that many modern people suffer from. Yoga and swimming are just two common examples to mention. For most people, when they get their mind blocked by this or that trouble, an interesting film or a pleasant chatting with friends may just solve the problem. So why should we bother to trust those nonmainstream tricks especially if they are so unsafe and lack of fun?

In sum, since science is not so effective in our minds than in other places, nonmainstream inquiries have their reason to exist. But totally believing in them may lead to unreasonable behaviors. Given that there is such a broad range of better choices for us, nonmainstream areas of inquiry can be left alone unless we need them as some kind of entertainments.

In human history, especially in the last two hundred years, science has been the most influential force that greatly changed our way of livesway of living的用法比较多. Yet it becomes increasingly evident to us in recent years that science is not a panacea记得作词汇时这个是贬义吧. There must be something else to solve our problems缺少对problem的限定. In the statement above, the speaker suggests that nonmainstream areas be the supplement of science.偶觉得作者不想是补充,毕竟说非主流的作用时用的是vital

It must be admitted that science alone is not enough in satisfying human needs, especially those involving mind and spirit. The main purpose of current scientific researches is to fulfill meet?our material demands by obtaining as much knowledge of the world and then reconstructing the world with that knowledge acquired. In this aspect, science does well. But it is not so effectual in the mental world. it is not so effectual as 。。。。It can not helpprevent行么? us from feeling lonely, afraid, or angry. This is why there are a multitude of nonmainstream areas这句不完整吧,why many of people believe 非主流 . Advocates of these areas claim that they bring people what mainstream science don't. In other words, these magical techniques are necessary for people as a supplement to science.纯说理阿,给点例子好些

However, believing in those magical techniques+个unconditionally can be dangerous. The fascinating stories of fortune-tellers and people who can control a teacup with their minds are fun, and are harmless as long as you don't treat it more seriously than a joke罗嗦了,直接think of xxx as joke. However, it's quite a different thing once you believe inare convinced吧 the existence of that kind of magical powers. Unlike science, those mysterious areas are irrational, because they are usually based upon wild imaginations of their creators. Follow their instructions and you may gradually lose your common sense常识?or  objective and scientific sense and become an irrational person too用 eventually吧. What will you do中间有,么 if a fortune-teller warns you that your life is in great danger because your new neighbor is actually sent by someone who wants to kill you? Will you follow his advice and lay a bomb in his front yard? What if a man promises that he can show you how to drive a car with your mind as soon as you hand out your bank account这个例子木看懂?涉嫌敲诈?? If you trust them no matter whatever they say, you are in great trouble.

Fortunately, there are othermore scientific means we can resort to satisfy our spiritual demands. In fact if you think carefully enough you can find more than adequate approaches to make yourself feel better. For instance, you can turn to nearly all kinds of arts when science just can't help: literature, music, painting, etc.疑问ing,这些是主流科学么?更何况需要人们主动努力才能有所收获吧,偶在这里用的是psychology的例子 Sports are also a good choice. Some sports are especially effective to soothe the anxieties that many modern people suffer from. Yoga and swimming are just two common examples to mention. For most people, when they get their mind blocked by this or that trouble, an interesting film or a pleasant chatting with friends may just solve the problem. So why should we bother to trust those nonmainstream tricks especially if they are so unsafe and lack of fun没看出这两点体现在哪?

In sum, since science is not so effective in our minds than in other places, nonmainstream inquiries have their reason to exist. But totally believing in them may lead to unreasonable behaviors. Given that假设吗?现在不是有了么,还用假设么? there is such a broad range of better choices for us, nonmainstream areas of inquiry can be left alone unless we need them as some kind of entertainments.

In human history, especially in the last two hundred years, science has been the most influential force that greatly changed our way of lives. Yet it becomes increasingly evident to us in recent years that science is not a panacea. There must be something else to solve our problems. 我觉得这里可以用复合句把上述两个句子连接起来 In recent years, the evidence that the …becomes so clearly that there must be something…是不是好一些呢? In the statement above, the speaker suggests that nonmainstream areas be the supplement of science. What is your opinion? I think you’d better write down your thesis of the whole composition here.

这里也可以用复合句 the reason why …is that…which… Advocates of these areas claim that they bring people what mainstream science don't.

For most people, when they get their mind blocked by this or that trouble, an interesting film or a pleasant chatting with friends may just solve the problem. So why should we bother to trust those nonmainstream tricks especially if they are so unsafe and lack of fun?很不错的观点
