希望拍的狠点^^

提纲:丑闻可以使我们把注意力集中到某一问题上,在一些领域如政治、科研可以起作用,但娱乐新闻却不能起到什么作用。
1、  人类天生对丑闻的注意和好奇
2、  政治上丑闻可其作用:水门事件、克林顿性丑闻。人们对政府领导人加强监督
3、  科研上:黄禹锡stem cell research,对其他研究人员和领域外人、国家起警示作用。
4、  娱乐新闻太多也无意义,没什么用。

TOPIC: ISSUE185 - "Scandals-whether in politics, academia, or other areas-can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."

Whether Scandals can be useful in politics, academia, or other areas as the speaker maintains? While on balance I agree that scandals can focus our attention on problems sometimes in ways that speakers or reformers cannot be compared with, but in my view whether scandals are useful or not varies from case to case.

I concede that scandals, whether on politics, academia or other areas such as business and so forth, can always draw our attention to those subjects at certain period of time. Drived by curiosity, it is almost the natural instinct in human beings to 'spy' on other people's life, especially on the scandals. Compared with speakers' or reformers' addresses, people are more inclined to prefer something they choose to pay their attention to rather than the problems come up with speakers.

Scandals in politics, as the speaker claims, can be useful when they are related to crucial problems such as the leader's personality and morality. The empirical evidence supporting this position is overwhelming; yet one need look no further than the Watergate scandal concerning Richard Nixon and the Sexual scandal on Bill Clinton. Both of the two presidents were powerful and of attractive personality on their terms until the scandals are revealed by the media and known to the public. Then we realized that it is the uprightness rather than the ostensible ability in a leader that really matters. As preventing such things like these scandals from happening again, American officers, citizens, and even people all over the world began to pay attention on their leader's rightness, which is almost impossible for a common speaker or reformer.

As to the realm of academia, scandals can always be useful as long as they reveal the actual facts to the public. Consider the stem-cell scandal concerning the Korea researcher Hwang Woo-suk for example. In order to attain success and frame for himself and his country in a short time, Hwang has chosen a shortcut, that is, to distort the outcome of the research. As it is known to all that when you finish your experiment and intent to get the paper published, you have to hand in all the details of the experiment, including the raw figures and outcomes. No researcher can ever be honored as a scientist if he distorts his experiment. The Hwang Woo-suk's case has called the attention not only of researchers and students majoring in life science, but also of people in other areas. People began to reflect on themselves, and be more careful in research or other activities. Moreover, some critics observed the case as the result of pursuing high speed development and over passionate nationalism in Korean society and government. Whether the Korean government will take action to change the situation is unknown, but the case did call our attention to reflect on problems that may happen in the process of development.

Notwithstanding the foregoing benefits or changes brought by scandals, in some respects, scandals can be useless. Considering the news in the entertainment part in newspapers; Drug-doing of the most popular pop diva, or a misconduct of a hit-movie star, and so forth. How many scandals can we find even in just a copy of daily newspaper? What these so-called scandals actually bring us? What problems they focus our attention on? Most of us could the find the newspaper among trash just a few hours later.

Although the speaker overrates the function of scandals, however, when it comes to the crucial topics, scandals can draw our attention and promote us to think more and reflect more, in ways that no speaker or reforms ever could.

Although the speaker overrates因为你是分情况讨论,这样下结论有点武断 the function of scandals, however, when it comes to the crucial topics, scandals can draw our attention and promote us to think more and reflect more, in ways that no speaker or reforms ever could.
