When I was young,One of my primary school teachers often indoctrinated us that:"Never judge a person just from his appearence."Whether the way people look,dress,and act reveals their attitudes and interests depends on special situations.I contend that in some aspects one truly can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people.But in some other aspects,it depends.

Let's first turn to the way people look and dress.In some aspects.the way the members of a society look and dress indeed reveals the society's ideas and values.A society with a problem of high rate of obese places a high value of indulgence and pleasure over physical health.Another society may value much of practical and saving if the people tend to wear uncostly clothes.
Besides,if the pepole of a society show a preference of traditional clothes,like the people in the tribes of some African nations,the society must value tradition more than modernization.In other aspects,how ever,the way people dress and look is conicide withe the climate and enviroment instead of their attitudes and interests.In harsh weather,people bundle themselves up and in hot summer day,people wear fewer and looser clothes.In developed and industrial countries,people tend to wear indoor clothes and have a pink-write-skin appearence.While in developing and agarian countries,people prefer to  wear outdoor clothes and have a weather-suffered appearence.

Then let's turn to the way people act.The way people act includes their habits,rituals and lifestyles.In centain aspects,the act of people also reflects the ideas and values of their society.In a soceity whose people show a preference of over-consumption,the idea of confort,convenience rather than healthy enviroment is valued.In the nations whose people are genteel,respectful to each other,the idea of respecting human dignity is highly valued.Like in Japen,people bow to each other to show respect and manner,while in westen contries,people embrace each other and kiss on the cheek of each other to show the same emotions.However,in some contries,people usually show hateful manner to each other.They don't respect other people's ideas and respect.For example in some African countries,the activity of race-baiting and even genocide happened now and then,which is also a stigma of our human society.

Finally,the idea of generize the way people look,dress and act reveals thier attitudes and their social values in the above statement just overlooked the distiction between free society and oppressed society.In the free society,like the contemporary America.The existence of diversity of different kinds of rituals,behaviros,manners of dress are qualified.Consequently,different people have the oppertunity to show different kinds of attitudes and values.While in the oppressed countries,Like the countries ruled by fascism.The subdued people are forced to change their rituals,ways of dressing public behaviors,languages to the countries which subdued them.These are called cultural hemogeneity and these are not what the subdued peope want.let alone to reveal their attitudes and values.

To sum up,though the statement's idea has some merit,it is unfair to generalize the way people look,dress,and act.Many people dress and act just because it's necessary to their work or their enviroment.And people in a oppressed society may belie their real attitudes and interests temporary for the sake of their own society.
